I agree 100%. It was a welcome relief that the Avengers didn't force a love story. That is my biggest complaint with Hollywood these days. I guess it tests well with audiences or something.
Yup, thought the love story in Thor totally ruined the movie for me.

Anyone stay until all the credits were shown after the movie? They have a couple of extra scenes with one of them being hilarious. Those that didn't see will have to wait until the DVD release.

if only there was 10 pages worth of posts to tell me that earlier...

Yeah but at least in Thor it wasn't really a throw in and it had a point in the plot of the movie.
It was used to actually give a reason for Thor to be attached to Earth, without the love interest it is hard to explain why Thor has such an attachment to the Earth without going into the comic storyline of placing him in a disabled students body. Plus he had a love interest with Jane Foster in the comics as well so it wasn't just a throw in.
The problem is that the love story wasn't believable...at all. Hemsworth had no chemistry with Portman, and the whole thing seemed extremely forced.
I understand the point of the love interest, but it didn't work in the movie.
Made sense to me. Guy who is more or less a god falls in love with science chick. He ain't lovin' her cause she's got a brain. God see tits, god get tits. God like tits :3. There's a reason there isn't even an attempt at a deleted scene of Thor hunting that down. Zeus never made a call back after knocking a girl up.

The best part of the end of the credits was this.
As a long time fan of the Silver Surfer this guy showing up at the end was a pleasant surprise.
There was news that came out today that Iron Man 3's budget was extended by another $60M to $200M. There reasoning was this "we don't want IM3 to be better than just the previous Iron Man films, but to be the best Marvel movie ever made".
So yeah, better action than the Avengers? My god. By the time Avengers 2 comes out the action will be so immensely awesome that people will die in the theaters.
