The fact that it hasn't once been mentioned in this thread tells me that The Shield is underrated.
Vic Mackey and Shane Vendrell may be my two favorite TV show characters of all time. Great show from the first episode to the last.
Yeah, it was mentioned, but it still doesn't get the cred that it deserves. It was such a good show.
Jon Kavanaugh was one of my most hated characters of all time. The "love to hate" category. Forest Whitaker just nailed it and credit has to go to the writers as well for creating this piece of crap that you wanted to see burn. I'm not sure there was anyone who wanted to see that character succeeed. There was no grey area with his character, you had to hate him. Perfect antagonist.
I try to watch the series from start to finish every year or two. There's just so many good moments.

I'll go a little bit off base with the movies and choose actors. I think Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins are both overrated. That is not to say they aren't fantastic actors, but a tad overrated.
I think Hannibal was a tad underrated. Maybe that's just because I loved the book so much.
LOTR: ROTK is overrated. The 3rd one was a dissapointment. I prefer the first 2 by a mile.
I think most people feel the same way about RotK. It's still a great movie, but one of the first two should have won best Picture, rather than the third. I guess the main problem is that it just does go on forever. I don't want to say it overstayed it's welcome, but I found myself losing interest in the last hour, and just waited for it to end. I haven't even bothered to check out the Extended Edition yet as I don't know if I have the attention span to watch a 4+ hour movie in one sitting. It also could be because we all read the books, and we pretty much knew what exactly was going to happen.
I would also say the latest Harry Potter movie is overrated. Similar issues as Return of the King; but it will get all the acclaim since it was the one that ended the franchise. However, I feel a couple of the middle entries are far better movies (Prisoner of Azkaban in particular).
Criminally Underrated: The Talented Mr Ripley- Not many people seem to remember this classic, but it was a superb character study of a fledgling criminal mastermind. It's a shame they never really expanded upon that series as they could of made 5 films out of it if they wanted too (although Ripley's Game is still pretty good).

Well at least they didn't keep the scouring of the Shire in it. Would have been 5 hours long then.
One of the best comedies of the last 10 years, but I thought Hot Fuzz was even better.

Nicholson in Five Easy Pieces may be the best example of acting of all time. It's a pure drama, but I'd also highly recommend taht one.
One Flew Over the ####oo's Nest isn't too shabby either, especially when you couple Nicholson's performance with the great Louise Fletcher's. One of my all time favorite movies.

Good news everyone! Season 6 has actually been airing on Teletoon. Sunday nights- the time changes (or I can't remember if I'm watching the East or West feed)- but some time around 9:00-10:00.
On Bell; if you see a Futurama episode on Teletoon that has the description "A 20th century pizza delivery boy copes with life in the future"- that is a season 6 episode.
I'm not sure the Walking Dead really qualifies as overrated. I mean does anyone actually think that it's really good? It fills a niche and it tries to cross genres, but every other episode is dead on arrival. I think people want it to be good, and see the potential that it has, but does anyone actually think it's good? Over appreciated maybe.
On the other side of the coin everyone I know who has watched Deadwood has loved it like it was their first transformer. So I wouldn't call it underrated, but it is certainly underappreciated.
The Kings Speech
The Hurt Locker
Slumdog (agreed here)
No Country For Old Men
The Departed
Seriously?
Those are all over-rated except The Departed, The Departed is a fantastic movie. The rest are 'meh', especially The Hurt Locker (about as average a movie can be), and No Country For Old Men has a rubbish ending.
