FWIW, I just sent the following email to the feedback address. I'll post any response here, but I'd be surprised if I got one.
I have a question/comment that I’d like a response on.
Why is it that the game audio on the subjected channels is so far ahead of the action? This has been an ongoing problem for some time now. It is to the point that, I literally know what is going to happen before it actually happens, and watch games with audio mute at the ready for scoring chances as a counteractive measure. Which as one might imagine, completely ruins the experience of watching live sports, and is a totally ridiculous way to spend an evening.
As far as I know, yours is the only channel I have ever watched live sports on that has this problem on an ongoing basis. TSN, CBC, CBS, FOX, NBC, hockey, football, golf, etc./you name it, and Sportsnet is the lone inadequate network. Technical difficulties I can fathom, but this seems to be a more fundamental problem. I have heard from multiple local sources with varying providers that have the same issue, and quite frankly it’s unacceptable to me as a paying customer. (Have a look for yourselves at just how satisfied people are: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=112191).
Can/will this ever be fixed? Does anybody on your end actually care?
Yours,
A truly dissatisfied customer.

I know a good tech that has tonnes of radio, tv, broadcast and hockey experience that could whip that debacle into shape in a heart beat.
Hockey broadcasts are complicated but not rocket surgery. Problem with mobile trucks and remotes is you typically only have one maybe two full timers and the rest are contractors. For the most part the contractors don't really care, there for the pay check or the hockey. We have all kinds of issues with the trucks mainly because they think they are gods that do no wrong.
I would love to have way more control over what the trucks do...

Is it by chance the service provider? I am on Bell and I didn't see a huge sync issue.

I'm on Bell and didn't notice an audio issue yesterday BUT did notice an occasional video stutter that I've seen from time to time since SN started broadcasting Flames games. I'm pretty sure its not my equipment because I've noticed it on two different PVRs. I've never seen this issue on any other channel at any time, seems to be confined to SN Flames broadcasts. Very annoying.

If it is the virtual advertising then that would make sense as they do not do it on the road.

It pretty much has to be, it started at the same time and the sync issues only happen in games with the board ads.

My guess is because of the amount of processing that has to go on in order to make the ads appear, that causes the delay. And they only appear over the main camera. I bet if they showed a goal live over another camera it would be in sinc.

The synchronization seems better over the last two road games. Even on 302. I've got an old Pace box.

It could be a matter of some of us getting digital audio and some of us not. Anyways I'm tired of the aggravation and I'm watching the Game Center, Rangers feed on my plasma. I like to sometimes hear the opposition's take on the game and our team, if they aren't too biased.

I'm on a Telus Optik feed when in Calgary, and a Bell satellite feed in BC - never noticed the delay on either. I recorded the last couple of games and specifically went back to check. Zero delay.
Oddly, there was an interview today with Backlund that was off just enough that his mouth and the words were slightly out of synch. But not the game.

For the past little while I've been copying everyone else by just muting the TV and put my phone onto Fan 960, pressing pause and play periodically until I get the sync down. Screw Kerr and screw Sportsnet.

Yup, just stream the audio via 960, and you'll be good to go. I much prefer Peter's call anyway.

The TV feed is always behind the 960 stream for me, I can't pause the game on the PVR to sync them up.

If you stream the audio on a mobile device, you can pause it to allow the TV to catch up. I use the free app "Tune In Radio" for iOS, but I'm sure there are a bunch of options.
