No one would trade Howard for a pair of bummed knees. Bynum's stock is over inflated just because he plays for the Lakers. If Bynum was playing for the Bucks, he wouldn't even be in the conversation with Howard.
If I were Howard, I would go to the Nets and play with a much younger D Will. Howard has no offensive game, he needs D Will's dishes to get him the easy buckets.

Chis Paul wouldn't sign any extension before next year is fine but at least do what Howard did so that he could help out NO.

If he can't land with the Los Angeles Lakers or New York Knicks, Chris Paul's preference is to be traded by the league-owned New Orleans Hornets to the Los Angeles Clippers to play alongside Blake Griffin, according to sources close to the situation.

Looks like Paul has smartened up. But that's probably something he should have done earlier in the process. How can NO trade you when you give no indication of where you would like to go? It's fine if Paul wants to leave NO, but he has to help his team to help making the trade.

Paul has told them from the get go where he wants go. The deal was consummated and the NBA messed it up. Now because of hurt feelings we had to give away Lamar Odom.
Chris Paul should be a Laker, he should be signing his 5 years 100 million contract and winning championships with Kobe.
I think I am done with the NBA. What David Stern did was a disgrace.

Paul and Griffin would be super exciting to watch. Just as a casual fan, I want this to happen.

Wow, the Clippers trade fell through. Maybe Miami can try to get Paul for Lebron and Wade but that might not even be enough.

What exactly is Stern trying to accomplish by blocking these trades? Paul won't be playing for NO next year and Howard won't be playing for the Magic, it seems like he's trying to screw over the small market teams by not even letting them get anything back for their superstars

The Clips got robbed sending all those young stubs and 1st round pick for Paul with questionable knees. Maybe Stern was trying to protect the Clips for making dumb trades.

I could sort of understand blocking the LA trade because of the lack of youth and cap space, given that there were other offers out there.
But the rumour now is that Clippers offered Aminu, Bledsoe, Kaman (expiring contract), and either Minnesota unprotected pick, or Gordon. League insisted on both Gordon and the pick. If that's the case, the league simply wants to either block any Paul trade, or force him to go somewhere he doesn't want to go. I simply do not understand at all what the league hopes to achieve, since he can go where he wants when he hits free agency in a year, anyway.

When did Stern block a Howard trade?

Stern needs to be fired if he actually blocked the trade from the L.A. Clippers because he felt N.O. should get Gordon and Minnesota's pick.
I kinda understand the reasoning for blocking the L.A. Lakers trade, that is somewhat defensible even though it was completely unprecedented.
But blocking a trade that would have gotten the Hornets a potential top pick in the 2012 draft is pretty short sighted. Let the GM's do their jobs, Dell Demps should really just resign right now and nobody should take that job.
EDIT: After reading a little more at least it looks like this trade didn't make it to the actual league trade approval process, it appears that they actually advised Demps to not take the trade unless it featured the first and Eric Gordon.

He didn't as far as I know. Just setting an example for Howard. I don't know much about NBA though

Billups was claimed off of amnesty waivers by the Clippers. We'll see if he makes good on refusing to play with any team that claims him (and passes up $14 million in the process); I think he shows up. Also might mean that Clippers wanted him so that they wouldn't need to worry about some of the assets they're offering for Paul.
Also with the Clippers, turns out that $43 million contract that GS offered DeAndre Jordan and LA matched included a trade-kicker. Still can't get over what an awful contract that is.
Thoughts on VC to the Mavs? I like them adding Odom, but Carter just doesn't seem to bring anything they need.

The NBA is messed up, David Stern is one if the not the worst commissioner in all of sports. First a lockout that yielded nothing, but more of the same. If you are going to go for it, then get the damn hard cap idiot, and don't cave in like they did.

Firstly, Billups put himself in a corner when he made the ultimatum he did. That was an idiot move because we all know he's not going to turn down the benjamins and retire. Good on the Clippers for calling his bluff.
VC. Can't think of a possible better fit aside from LA for the guy. He'll be coming off the bench, so he's likely not going to play big minutes. Perfect setup for the injury prone princess. Good supporting cast to help him as well, although if memory serves correct Kidd didn't want to play with him towards the end in NJ (though I'm doubtful they'd sign the guy if that was the case).
David Stern, definitely not the worst. That's reserved for Selig, but he's really messed up this year. Before players were somewhat afraid of talking out, this year they're fed up with him, and he hasn't handled anything well. If he did KO the latest apparent deal to the Clippers for Gordon or the potential lottary 1st, what's this guy smoking? Paul will leave for virtually nothing at the end of the season, and to get some good pieces like Kaman + one of the two mentioned above, is a decent place to rebuild. David just hasn't been respected recently, and at the season's end if it continues, I could see the guy stepping down.

If I'm the rest of the league I just stop negotiating with the Hornets. Let them sweat it out with an unhappy superstar and let Stern see that franchise lose tremendous value as he walks away for nothing.

Paul "could" leave NO but will he take a lot less to do it is another question? Paul is the rich man's version of Damon Stoudamire who crashed out of the league before 30 after winning ROY.
Paul is bigger and better than Stoudamire but he relies on his quickness/athleticism and at the age of 26, his next contract will be his biggest one. Will he leave the reportedly 25 millions on the table to go free agent?
If Paul doesn't get traded, NO might actually have a good chance of signing him because they can offer him more money. And all the contenders (Lakers, Clips, Knicks) won't have the cap space to sign him to max contract.

Paul has made it quite clear he has no desire to resign with NO. I'm quite sure he is well aware of the options that will be available to him as a free agent.

Of course he has. If he doesn't get traded in season to LA or NY, the only way he could join them as FA next year is to sign really cheap deals because LA and NY are capped out. Does it make sense?
He can also sign with teams like GS or MIN that could offer him max deals even though those deals will be less and shorter than the one NO can offer him. Would playing for GS or MIN and take less money be more desirable to him than playing for NO?
All I'm saying is that NO knows that the the above are the scenarios Paul would be facing if they don't trade him this season. Paul could still leave but perhaps, he won't because of how the CBA is structured.

If they don't trade him and place him in the situation you've described there's absolutely no way he resigns, the ill will would be even greater than it is right now.
