Castle should be getting a huge dump today, would be sweet to skip out of work on wed and go out.

Canada's Mielzynski wins Alpine World Cup slalom

It was also the first time a woman from the Great White North had reached the podium in slalom since Judy Crawford's third-place showing in Switzerland in 1973.

Sunshine Village ‏ @SunshineVillage
123cm (48inches) of champagne powder already in the month of March, and 773cm year to date, we might beat a 40 year total snowfall record!

Lots of powder in Panorama this weekend and yesterday and today. Not the easiest to ski in but its better than the LL ice rink after the wind.

Was at Sunshine on Saturday. Great conditions despite the parking nightmare.

Looks like an avalanche happened sometime this week and parking along the road around numbers #2 and #3 was unavailable. Jumped from main lot, to #1, then to #4.

Although there were cars all the way down to the gate close to the main highway, there were hardly any lineups at the lifts. Really weird.

Was at Nakiska today, good conditions, and then a nice dump of snow all of a sudden just before the lifts shut down. Fortunately got in one last run.

I was at Nakiska on Saturday. Conditions weren't bad but I was surprised how little coverage there was off the groomed. If it stays warm that place has another 2-3 weeks, tops.

That is how Nakiska is, until March and April when it gets puked on with snow. Also since 80% of the snow is manmade on most of the runs it tends to hold up better in the warmer temperatures then the natural stuff. Also the weekend of March 30-April 1 the Canadian Masters Ski Championships are there. Generally Nakiska sticks around til mid-end of april pending on how much snow actually does fall over this month.

Mt. Washington was closed today due to powerful winds reducing visibility to near zero.

Any places nearby doing night skiing besides Panorama? I can't extricate myself from the city until after 2PM for the next couple of weekends and I am hoping for something close by.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get Adult beginner ski lessons?

I haven't skied since I was 15 and I plan on getting into some light AT skiing with a friend who's into splitboarding. I need to get the basics down so I can milk the rest of the season getting out and practicing so I can get some experience in before everything shuts down (though my friend's go to Revelstoke or Fernie on the regular until they are shut down, so I should have between now and May'ish).

Is forking out the dough for 1 on 1 worth it over a group environment?

Norquay has a pretty good program. Our kids were in it this year. Adults seemed to be doing well in it too. A group lesson would be fine to get started. Then after a few more days or when you feel like you are plateauing or out of ideas, a private or semi private lesson may give you more value.

So this year has been abysmal for me skiing wise. Haven't been following conditions since the end of January.

Best bets for the weekend of the 14th/15th? Looking at staying on the hill somewhere. US isn't an option. Kicking horse looks like they've got a great deal for a ski and stay package, but I'm more concerned about the best snow conditions over good deals. Not even sure what all is open right now.

Suggestions?

I took the COP class Adult beginner. They go from the very basics so if you think you are more advanced than that...

Some problems with learning on the bunny hills is that it's not very good preparation for even green runs. At least in my case, I didn't feel as well prepared. So, ideally, lessons on actual runs would be recommended, too.

One good thing is that if you can skate, some of the motions like making a hockey stop feel instinctive.

I would like to learn some better speed control going down the hill. I am not sure what I am / was doing wrong, but once I pick up speed, it feels like even though I do some side-to-side turns, I am still picking up more speed and eventually my only choice is to come to a stop.
