Secret Santas. What do you buy for that co-worker you know nothing about?

She's in her 40s and single? Cute cat calendar.

He's in his 30s and a nerd? Star Wars calendar.

Cubicle drone? Dilbert calendar.

They're also good for those relatives whose interests you don't really know.

This thread got me wondering what ever happened to Red Robin? I noticed they're still in Edmonton but seemed to leave Calgary. I enjoyed Red Robin on occassion. Also, Fuddruckers? I think they still have a location in Saskatoon.

My ex-gf's mom was big on collecting ornaments. She did it all year round, and even waiting for special release dates for new ornaments. So, maybe they don't do that terrible of business year round.

There was also a bathroom in her house decorated exclusively with pictures of lighthouses. It was a little weird for me as I was reading Freud at the time. But that's neither here nor there.

What about those 'As Seen on TV' stores? How the hell do they stay in business? If you're not going to buy those products while watching their snazzy informercials, why would you buy them after seeing how crappy they are in person?

How about Mr. Sub? Unless you are looking for a place that sells bottom of the barrel subs, with no taste or selection, you're much better to go to Subway, Quizno's, or even grab a sub from the store.

Don't think I have bought a sub from there in at least 3 years.

When I saw Julio's Barrio mentioned in the thread, all I could think of is how I miss the Red Robin in Kensington.

Also: holy 12-page thread.

Also, also: Sizzler in the USA. That's just great (if you are 83)

I love McDicks. They are spending 1 Billion dollars to renovate all of their stores and that means employing people in Canada as well to do that work. Only burger place to see growth during the recession.

#1 - Always loved them in moderation
#2 - Have a lot of friends who have franchises
#3 - Do a large amount of charity work. I've been to a lot of MacDonals functions and charity golf tournaments. Talk to a bunch of parents who stayed at the Ronald MacDonald house for a long time where everything is paid for.

They had their big annual convention one Toronto this year. Doughty and MAF were guests as well. Next one will be in Florida which will include international franchisees.

McDicks ain't some Walmart selling a bunch of chinese cheap junk and putting Canadians out of work.

I don't mind BP's, but we only go there for pitchers of beer and wings. Brewhouse is ok. Only go there for beer and maybe some small pizza. Wings are disgusting and I never complain about wings. Love their 24/7 or whatever that drink is called.

Subway hasn't been doing too great the past while. This is the first time in their history that the $5 sub deal stayed on for more than a month.

I think MacDonalds is the biggest real estate company in the World

Was it not a George's or a Junior's?

There is a Carle's Jr opening up in Edmonton in a little while. Anybody hear of that? First one was in BC. I never tried it before.

I worked at the Kinney shoes there in 86

Sweet! Any idea where the location will be? I'd guess South Common, or possibly West Ed.

By the early 90s, no. Maybe in the past. Were you thinking the one in the mall or the Harveys? I think the Harveys opened up in the late 80s or very early 90s and I don't remember what it was before that. The one in the mall changed names a few times, and I don't remember all the incarnations.

It's funny that there are so many CPers from one area in Winnipeg. It is a small world.

I like Carl's Jr. I've only been there a couple of times, but I remember the burgers being pretty good. Overall, I like the US burger chains better than the ones we have (which are also from the US).

Yuck, I had that in Grand Forks, ND this summer. At noon on a Friday, the place is empty. Nobody eats there for lunch. I don't blame them, the food isn't anything to rave about. I wonder if people in Grand Forks are thinking about Carl's Jr. the same way we're thinking on here.

You must be thinking of another place, because there are no Carl's Jr locations in North Dakota (they are mostly along the west coast). That and Carl's Jr is awesome!
