In seriousness, I understand why some people don't like it, and I definitely know why some people get tired of it (I skip a year every so often, and definitely don't go to the grounds every year), but you just need to take a breath and say:
'It is what it is.'
Sure it can be tacky, noisy, annoying, filled with idiots and bad behaviour. But as someone said, it's an excuse for 10 days of partying. It's a time to enjoy summer weather and take a break from the rat race. Reconnect with some friends. We're pretty hard workers in North America and in Calgary in general, and it's nice to have a time when one is basically encouraged to get drunk, slack off, and feed our base instincts. A little for some, and a lot more for others.
MMMMM giant corn dog. I will be eating one of you or many. Stampede for the 20-40 year old crowd is like a giant bar/pub/club with as much awesomely bad food and ladies within arms reach at all times. whats not to like! well maybe the 15 dollar (or whatever it is) gate entrance but then its just like paying cover at a bar.

Say what you will about the Stampede. Most cities on Earth would kill to have 10 days of fun every year like we do. Would you rather be Edmonton with their cheap copy cat that is their Exhibition? Winnipeg has their Red River Ex too, is that better?
Or these little towns with their apple festival, strawberry queen parade, are those better?
Count your blessings guys and enjoy the boozing and partying for the next 10 days!
My desk overlooks the back of the Whiskey, where they've set up their makeshift patio for Stampede. Even with some posters blocking the view, I am currently watching waitresses in booty shorts going up and down the stairs into the club.
I will get zero work done here next week.
(I also promise to bring a good camera to work.)

We may curse our bad luck that it's sounds like its; who's sounds like whose; they're sounds like their (and there); and you're sounds like your. But if we are grown-ups who have been through full-time education, we have no excuse for muddling them up.
I'm in from Toronto until Monday taking in the festivities for the weekend (including Banff on Saturday), and I'm expecting an insanely sloppy time. I'm just off the Red Mile about a 10 minute walk from the Stampede grounds as well, so it's gonna be fun. But I'm not thinking of picking up any ladies...I'm just concerned about surviving the weekend as a brown visible minority who's hoping not to get lynched. Besides, who's ever seen a brown cowboy? lol

Remember.. we aren't real cowboys here..

Don't worry, if our gay muslim mayor is safe then you should be too.

That's the best part about the whole dress up thing. There's nothing more awesome than a FOB Indian or a 300 lbs Samoan wearing a cowboy hat and partaking in the festivities.
Flames85 can go pout in the corner, let the rest of us have fun. If you want to wear a hat, wear a hat. If you don't, then don't. There's no rules. It's the wild west for 10 days.
At least it looks like weather is going to co-operate for Stampede next week; first time in years the forecast has looked good. Im expecting record attendance figures with all the attention the royal couple is giving it
