Personally I think that d-partner (Gio vs. others) and coaching style (Hartley's style magnified his strengths) are the bigger reasons for his change in quality of play but just wondering if he's ever said he prefers the right side.

And a follow up - if he's said he prefers the RH side to management then I blame Treliving more than GG for his utilization. He went and added Stone, Hamilton, Hamonic, plus we had Andersson and Fox in the system. Really there is no chance for Brodie to play his RH side because that would have screwed up the position for the rest of the players that GG has on the roster.

IMO that would make that Hamonic acquisition even worse...because if Brodie told Treliving he prefered the RH side then the focus really should have been a LH d-man to pair with him or Hamilton.
At best he said he preferred it or was most used to it over his career, but even that was back when he played on the right. He may have said there were adjustments to be made once he switched. But he hasn't said it's any kind of a reason for any poor play, or a drop in production.

IMO, his best asset in his big year was his skating, not the occasional great backhand pass he would make. The last couple years he's looked slower to me. He's been beaten in footraces with forwards back to his own zone, which didn't use to happen - he could make up ground on the backcheck.

It seems like the media is trying to push the blame away from the coach. Listened to HC@noon this morning and Maclean referenced the vote of confidence from Torts and it seemed like the panel agreed.

In my opinion I don’t see how they can come back with Gulutzan. My thoughts are all the assistants will be let go at minimum but if GG is retained I expect major personnel being moved out.

This is going to be a wild summer I think

I can't for the life of me imagine what that was originally.

IMO the Maurice situation is the only reason to keep GG. I don't hate him, but this is a short term success based league. However, I bet they keep him until the other dominoes start to tip.

Yes. As I understand the media, per se, is not Israel.

For what its worth.

Hope not. They need to be ready to pounce. Can him early so you're ready when those dominoes do fall.

Sigh, if this happens, it'll be a repeat of the last GG and Savard incident. Trade away a major piece, and keep the coach. Next season rolls around, 20 games into the season, it's same old, same old. They then fire the coach. I cannot believe I get to see it happens twice in my lifetime.

They can hire another guy and can him right then. It's uncommon, but in no way illegal or improper. I don't think any sought after coach is going to snap up the first offer that comes anyway.

I would like to read the definition of a "proven coach". As far as I'm concerned if a coach isn't going to be retained by his current team then proven no longer applies. We keep recycling previous coaches under the guise of "proven". From the postings I've read here I'd still like to go with someone new. Huska, Hunter etc. I'm sure that Tim would kick some butt. This bs about being too hard on guys who make millions is ridiculous. Preform as poorly as the Flames do and you'd be out of your job long ago.

?

For example, Quenneville won 3 cups and is second only to Bowman in nhl wins.
Will the Hawks fire him? Should the Flames hire him? Don't know or care, but this guy is proven, my friend.

Isn't Gulutzan's contract up after this season? No way the Flames re-sign him.

Maybe other coaches want Gulutzan to keep his job because his teams are easy to beat?

There have been conflicting reports, but it is widely believed that he has a three year contract.

These sorts of effusive comments come from not just NHL coaches, and not only from people employed by NHL teams.

I posted that belief but it was based on Capfriendly which has since removed that figure.

With all the talk about coaching in Calgary lately, one would think that if Gulutzan's contract was expiring it would enter the conversation in the media. Yet, it has not. It seems most likely that he is signed through next year.

Who is a moderator I can PM? I have decent opinions from a current NHL executive and a former one on who they believe our coach will be next year. Dont want to disclose unless mods thinks it's ok.

Not meaning to be. Just thought that's how it had to be done. If no problem I will. Won't give my sources publically though.
