This might be in poor taste as I know she's a 14 year old girl, but...

but I feel like strangling Suzie for making Dusty bun singing that song. Had everyone not been delayed for that 1:18 sing along, Billy and Hopper may still be alive as Billy may not have needed to sacrifice himself and Hopper and Joyce would've had the time to turn the key to blow up that machine.
If you're going that deep on timelines and realism in season 3, you're going to drive yourself nuts. Season 3 was very entertaining, but they definitely put style and entertainment over realism in most cases.
Spoiler!
I get that the local government was corrupt, but wouldn't the correct step be to notify the feds. Surely, they would react pretty immediately to Soviet communists building a giant military base/research lab on American soil.
The US government was also responsible for the initial research into the upside down, and have chosen not to do further research at this time. I seriously doubt they would allow the Russians to open up their own portal.
Hopper making a phone call, and then the US army rushing in, isn't nearly as dramatically engaging though.

I'm not sure how much earlier. I also feel like Hopper should have given Winnona Ryder some slack instead of thinking she was crazy about the magnets given what they have experienced but really he was just investigating some weird #### as a police chief.
They only found out it was Russians when they kidnapped Alexei, did they not? And from there they raced to Murray's to translate, and once translated they informed the feds. They didn't have cellphones and the like, and probably didn't think a phonecall 5 minutes earlier would have been the difference between life and death (or maybe death but actually being held in Russian prison...)
In season 3, episode 6, Murray's phone number is revealed on screen. It's 618-625-8313, if you're wondering and yes, it's a working number. When you call the number, you get put through to Murray's voicemail machine where he proceeds to shout and yell about his own mother... before he then starts speaking to Joyce Byers.
Quote:
"Hi, you have reached the residence of Murray Bauman. Mom, if this is you, please hang up and call me between the hours of 5 and 6pm as previously discussed, ok?
If this is Joyce, Joyce, thank you for calling, I have been trying to reach you. I have an update. It's about, well, it's probably best if we speak in person. It's not good or bad, but it's something."
Quote:
The message continues: "If this is anyone but my mother or Joyce, well, you think you're real clever, getting my number, don't ya? Well, here's some breaking news for you: You're not clever. You're not special. You are just simply one of the many, many nimwits to have called here, and the closest you will ever get to me is this prerecorded message so at the beep, do me a favour and hang up and never call here again.

One could argue...
Spoiler!
... Hopper alerted Comrade Terminator to his location when he fired the AK into the ceiling to get the scientists to leave the control room, so the delay due to Dustin having to sing to/with Suzie didn't matter anyway.

Counterpoint...

So much noise has been made in the Russian underground base (crawling through the air ducts, casually yelling and screaming in it; strolling through the long corridor, also yelling and screaming throughout) that I'm quite convinced each room is stand alone sound proof from each other. Gunshots wouldn't have alerted anyone if the other stuff haven't

while i can handle some suspension of disbelief, cause we're talking about a group of early aged teens stopping the Apocalypse, the song was just too much
seems like alot of the internet is also hating on Suzie too
The entire scene is adorable (seriously Gaten Mazarro and Gabriella Pizzolo have amazing voices) but there is a dark side to it. In the time it takes for them to sing, the Russian hitman Grigori catches up with Joyce and Hopper. Then fighting him off, Hopper gets stuck in the same room as the gate to the Upside Down. Joyce has to close the gate and effectively kill Hopper to save the world. Meanwhile, the Mind Flayer monster kills Billy above ground.
In other words, if Suzie had just told Dustin the number straight away, Hopper and Billy might still be alive.
Just finished. I thought it was great. Better than the second season and I’ve kind of accepted they just won’t top the first season. If you haven’t seen the entire show AND the post-credits scene in the last episode don’t click the spoiler tag. If you missed the post-credit scene go watch it.
Spoiler!
I rarely cry during shows but Hoppers “death” made me tear up. I was fine until that damn letter about feelings. I thought the ending was very well done.
I also thought they gave Billy an appropriate ending. Just got all the feels right now.
In regards to the post-credit scene, it has to be Hopper in the Russian gulag, no? Who else could it be? We never actually see him die. I was absolutely crushed when I thought he died but now I’m not so sure he did. Either way he was willing to sacrifice himself and that makes him badass.
I also like that they took Eleven’s powers away after the bite. I think that could set up the next season for something fresh.
Likely the same reason as the Americans, only with sinister 80s Cold War overtones.
Yeah, I would assume they are opening the gate as part of some kind of weapons race.
Also, I think we should officially end spoilers. The season has been out for long enough that anyone who is worried about spoilers should not be entering a thread like this.
Is it explained why the Russians were trying to open the gate?
To be fair, the thread title does not specify that this is spoilers only. It could (and should) be assumed but just in case I didn’t want to ruin it for others. Spoiler tags in the threads clearly marked spoilers drive me nuts so I see where you’re coming from.
He's either the one in the jail or he's somewhere in the upside down. There is no way they killed him off without showing his body.
Yeah, and
Spoiler!
El losing her powers for a long time might make sense just for her own personal plot development, but it makes tonnes of sense as a way of having Hopper alive somewhere else without El being able to find him.
i guess i am one of the few disappointed in the season
Season 1 was amazing because it was earnest had some serious themes of loss and of course, you are meeting all these characters for the first time... Season 3 had a few moments and i still enjoyed it overall, but more because i love the characters because of season 1.
if i started watching beginning in season 3, i'd be wondering what all the fuss was about.
