Equally important how does the salaries compare with other major universities? That's who UCalgary is competing with for talent.

The last AER hearing about the Grassy Mountain Mine is in Calgary on March 4th. Those of us fighting the destruction of the Eastern Slopes are holding a protest march and need it to be BIG in order to get the politicians to listen.
Could you please attend the protest (and bring some friends)?
Date: March 4

The justice said the applicant “did not establish that the defences of justification, fair comment and responsible communication in the public interest will inevitably fail, or that it is beyond doubt that any defence raised by the respondent is not sustainable,” according to a spokesperson with the Court of King’s Bench Alberta.

No wonder his course load was so large. 5 courses per semester, maybe 2 in the summer. Boom, you've earned 60k....
I dated a girl who had left her banking job to be an instructor at U of C. She made about 100k. Significant discount compared to her private sector job.
EDIT: looking at some of those comps on the sunshine list, and yeah some of them get paid a pretty penny (many are medical doctors) but some of the high profile faculty members are making over 250k. I don't think that's a ridiculous amount of money considering they are experts in their field, i just didnt know.
|
just remember that faculty may have several roles besides teaching a few courses. those making that type of money are almost always significant research heavy hitters ( who bring in orders of magnitude more than that in grant funding and would be highly sought after elsewhere too)
250k is not a typical salary even for a very experienced full professor

Can you imagine finding out this guy does your taxes and is openly discussing your salary on calgarpuck? Like delete your posts Locke. The amount of "I do x's taxes" followed up by a criticism or praise over the years is way too much. Are you putting out an exact number? No, but you sure don't have much tact around it.

They're certainly not the brightest people around.
If they want to be part of the US so much, why not just drive there, instead of Camrose?

Probably scared of getting shot and not having the money for health care.
Honestly how do these people get money.

But that's ok, I was just interested to hear what people thought professors should make relative to other industries. It's a tough thing to pin down, because some professors just teach there courses and write a paper or two every couple years, or a book every 4 years. Others are essentially running small businesses (labs) that could do hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars in grant revenue per year.
Admittedly off topic for the thread
