The opening rounds of the World Cup is like the First Round of the NHL playoffs...you love it because it feels like its always on, its great.
Then as time goes on...

FIFA should've given us a Spain/Japan shoot out to pass the time until the next games this week.

I now have 3.5 days to stew and stress about Brazil with no other distraction.
I have PTSD from the opening match of 2014 where the Divers got all the calls. Then the weak ass Richarlison penalty against Korea. Ugh, divers.

The ref was demoted to 4th official for the rest of the tournament.

^You might want to look closer to home at Bilic in 1998 if you want to consider worst ever dives.
Point is. They're all at it.

Ancient history, but if you're thinking of the red card in the semi, it was a certainly a dive but the Frenchman did give him an intentional, albeit weak, little whack.
You're right they all do it, but Brazil is one of the worst offenders. Last game alone there were probably 5 egregious dives by them.

Isn't this 90% of dives? Where contact is felt triggering the dive.
Anyways the travesty in that one for me and why I called it one of the worst ever is that FIFA didn't step in and overrule the red card and Blanc missed a WC final.

Anyways. A bit of a space flller. A breakdown of shootout penalties before this WC.
Quote:
Your chances of scoring a penalty are much increased if you go to the right or left - but please avoid putting it down the middle.
Some 74% of penalties placed to the right, and the same percentage of those put to the left, go in. But penalties down the middle are only scored 57% of the time - that is a record of 36 from 63.
You have a similar chance of having a penalty saved whichever way you shoot (about 21%), but you are much, much likelier to miss the target down the middle.
Some 11% of central penalties hit the crossbar and another 11% go over. Go left or right and those numbers drop to 3% and 1% respectively.

Eden Hazard retires from Belgium.
Quote:
Eden Hazard has announced that he will retire from international football following Belgium's disappointing World Cup campaign in Qatar.
"A page turns today... Thank you for your love," Hazard said on his Instagram account on Wednesday. "Thank you for your unparalleled support. Thank you for all this happiness shared since 2008.
"I have decided to put an end to my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you....#onestensemble."

There will more than likely be much more of this coming.

Big game. If Brazil can come out with a fast start like Korea and not fall asleep would be great.
