#BlueJays sending Josh Donaldson to Cleveland for player to be named later per source
Some money will change hands in the deal as well
Shi Davidi@ShiDavidi
Source says Josh Donaldson deal is done, #BlueJays getting a PTBNL with some value,
Cleveland also get some cash

If the Jays are trading JD along with some cash you'd like to believe the player coming back isn't too terrible.

I believe in the Jays.

Demi Orimoloye for Granderson is a good deal. Way better then I thought we'd get for him. Gives me some hope that Donaldson return will leave me somewhat satisfied

Have the Jays ever had a player of Nigerian descent? That's pretty cool

PTBNL must mean it depends entirely on JD's health/performance I imagine.
Likely won't know the outcome of this trade until the off season.

Jays are actually getting, not giving, $2.7m from CLE.
Even if the money wasn't going straight into some unrelated Rogers account, it means the value of the Ptbnl is going to be underwhelming.

No, the Jays are sending $2.7 million to the Indians to cover part of JDs remaining salary.

With respect to the Donaldson, this deal should be judged now contingent on the prospect coming back. Personally I feel he'll be impactful in the playoffs, and if he is, I suspect the prospect given back is a good one. That's reasonable to expect right? If not why wouldn't they keep him for next year to have another go at getting value from him? The only way I can see this being a disaster to them is if he gets injured again, because if he's healthy he'll perform.

Donaldson trade marks abrupt split from Blue Jays after promising start
Quote:
Optically, trading Josh Donaldson was never going to be easy for the Toronto Blue Jays, even though the amount of distrust that had developed between them meant their relationship was coming to an end, if not Friday than at season’s end.
Really, for both sides, this needed to happen, as difficult as it is to imagine saying that given where things stood even in the spring, when the sides earnestly discussed a contract extension.
So, yeah, this isn’t going to sit well with disgruntled and disappointed fans, even if the player to be named later was described by an industry source as someone Cleveland valued. Reports suggested the player will be right-hander Julian Merryweather, a 26-year-old who had Tommy John surgery in the spring but has arm strength and reached triple-A last year.

Tommy John surgery in March 2018. Isn't that usually a 12 to 18 month recovery process if one does recover? 26 years old never having played in the majors. Seems to have a heater though.

Unless he's had a nagging injury for a while he looks like a career minor leaguer.
I know hindsight is 20/20 but wow, to not trade Donaldson in the offseason was an epic fail by Atkins and Shapiro. They should have egg on their faces right now.

Yuo, my bad. It makes sense but the report I saw last night said the cash was the other way and has since been corrected.

17th best Indians prospect, drafted, yes, in the last draft where Aitkins and Shapiro were both in Cleveland.

All in all, pretty damn disappointing to see Donaldson leave the Jays. I was watching highlights of Donaldson scoring the winning run against the Rangers in the 2016 ALDS and to see how quickly things have just totally fallen apart for my favourite team, is just a tough pill to swallow.

Powerplay Quarterback

The rumours suggest it will be Julian Merryweather as the PTBNL, but I wonder if Bradley Zimmer could be the guy.
