Fair, but if I wanted to treat my folks to a night out, that's where I'd be going.

I have never been, but I've heard Chairman's is good.
Also I disagree on Major Tom
OT, but I was out in Toronto the other week and ate here:

I expected Tony Soprano to walk in.

If downtown, Vintage. Deep South, Chairmans. Modern Steak/Modern Ocean in on Macloed and Anderson(ish) is really good too.
EDIT: I have also never been disappointed with Alloy. Not a Steakhouse but there is typically some beef on the menu, among other things. The Lakehouse on lake Bonavista is also really good. I have taken my parents there before as well.

Went to this quirky restaurant on the weekend that just opened in the old bookers building. It's called Strip Joint and they do chicken strips with various flavours and toppings and boozy slushes. I had the Pickled one and it was delicious and the funeral potatoes were on point. Lot of food though.

They were giving out free food. It's delicious but I wouldn't line up in this weather for it.

Finally went to Pat and Bettys for NYE. The dishes on fixed menu were well thought out and save for one key part, delicious. 3 of 5 courses arrived luke warm. Each time I checked the plate it was served on, and they did not heat the plate. I thought that was standard practice to keep food warm?
Anyways we complained but nothing other than verbal apology happened. Which is fine I guess.
I may go back. Not sure. I think there is potential there, the service was great, the place is nice, but just seemed a bit off.

It sucks, but I've learned to lower expectations on special occasion nights like NYE and Valentines... If I bother going out at all.
I've been to Pat & Bettys a few other times and things have always been great, so I'd encourage you to give them another chance and not judge them solely on their NYE performance.

This for sure.
My GF loves going out on these nights (i'd personally rather just cook at home) and for the most part they are either too expensive, disappointing, or both.
Having said that, we did go to Calcutta Cricket Club for NYE and their set menu. It was probably my favourite NYE experience (Shokunin a few years ago was also great). The food was all new (i.e. not on their regular menu) and very good. Service was hectic but it was NYE and expected.

I could happily eat just veggie dishes at Ten Foot Henry and Bridgette Bar.
A lot of my favourite Indian dishes are meatless.
