Yeah, I felt a little bad about that, I took a comment about a statue, exaggerated it, pushed it way over the top, made myself look like a worse person then I am.
But it pushed the kid to expose his true self.

Umm, what the hell was she expecting? She knew coming in that not many people here think much of OC. An opinion that is widely held within this city, and perhaps even the entire country. So her response to some criticism is to throw a hissy fit and run away?
Don't these little children realize that going out of your way to alienate the people whose support you need if you hope to succeed is self-defeating? Thanks you, Idnami, for once again showing that OC isn't a protest so much as it is a temper tantrum.

I have spent the past two months being accused of laziness despite my hard work, incoherence despite attempts to elucidate and having no idea what I am talking about. I'm cool with that. People don't get it. I try to patiently explain and they still don't get it. Fair enough.
My friends and I have been called hippies, squatters, bums, spoiled brats and worse and that is also fine. I have a job, I shower often, I work hard to make the world just a teensy bit better and people still feel very proud of themselves for ignoring these facts and continuing to spout ridiculous contempt. No problem. I really don't take that personally, frustrating as it is.
However, a group of people who claim to respect hard work, skill and dedication have just suggested that we take someone else's hard work, skill and dedication and disrespect it, destroy it, anything but accept the gift in the spirit it was given. This disgusts me. This is disgusting.
If I suggested we melt down the Stanley Cup because I personally am sick of hockeymania you would all be feeling quite justified in using whatever choice language you wanted in telling me where to go. I have no problem with criticism. I have a big problem with stupidity and asinine refusal to look past the end of one's own nose.
Our world is in all kinds of trouble. Anyone with half a brain can see that. We condone human suffering daily for the sake of our own greed and this is WRONG. So go ahead and hate. Hate and ignorance are what is killing us all. I think people who wear their hate and ignorance so proudly are probably beyond help.
I came to talk to you guys and some of you were civil and reasonable and I thank those of you who were. People who want to destroy a valuable piece of art work given freely to their city are not worth my time. Nazis did that kind of thing. You are truly messed up if you think it is ok to do so.
Now I really am done. If you would like to criticize my ideas further you know where to find me.

It's all about the DRAMA for these folks. Grand gestures and ZERO results.
We've got a generation who thinks tweeting and blogging is action. What a joke. Get out from behind your computers, put down your phones and go out and get your hands dirty DOING something.

Interesting way to bring up Godwin's law. It isn't fascist to discard something that someone else abandoned.
If you abandon something on city property, you do not get much say in what is done with it. It may very well get melted down and sold for scrap. I'd personally have no issue with that, even though I don't mind the sculpture.

Ah, the old "Calgary is redneck and has no culture" bombshell. Good one, idnami. Now, not only have you proven that you have absolutely no comprehension of economics, you also don't have any of your own opinions.
Where'd you get the old redneck stereotype? Did your high school social studies teacher tell you that one? Or was it one of your enlightened friends that just came back from smoking weed in Vancouver for the summer?
If you want to be taken seriously, you need to start by taking your head out of your ass and forming your own opinions. Take a walk down Stephen Ave during a lunch hour and tell me where the rednecks are? Oh, that's right. They're at home in their basements pining for the good old days, just like they do in every other city of the world.
As for culture, well, ours is a culture of entrepreneurship and hard work. I'm so sorry that that doesn't register on your culture meter. What are you looking for? Baguettes, wine, and cheese on a patio? We're not Paris, we just import their wine.
Take your ball, and go home and pout that the big meanies on CP have told you what's really going on. Sorry that you've come to a board full of professionals and entrepreneurs looking for sympathy for your incoherent cause.

Comparing your statue to the Stanley Cup is probably the dumbest thing I've heard, then you bring up the Nazi's and compare it to us.
The only thing that's truly messed up is you.
Calling us stupid and asinine in the face of your whole post kind of puts the label on you.
Once again you've proven the thesis that if someone's opinion does not jive with the Occupy movement that Occupyer's are just as intolerant and closed minded as the rest of society.
Pretty sad for a group that states that they want to better the human conditions, its apparent that you only want that for a segment of society that agrees with you, the rest of us are clearly Nazi's.
You clearly know nothing about the Nazi's you just threw it around because you think its a argument point. But if you look for example at my families history, my mother's parents fled Germany during the rise of the Nazi's because they saw the rise of antisemitism and they knew that cross hairs were firmly going to rest on them because they were of Jewish decent, and they were successful and fairly well off.
My Grand father on my fathers side fought the Nazi's during the second world war, as did his brothers.
You see, I can do the Godwin argument too. The Jews were targeted by the Nazi's because they were different, and because they were seen as being in control of the economy and taking advantage of the average German.
So I give you a big hearty middle finger up.
And your statue might be valuable to you, but don't pass that value on as a general statement.
I hope you're not typical of the Occupy movement in Calgary but I somewhat suspect you are.
You try to pull the Wall-mart argument and you get booted around because you don't actually know anything about Wall-mart and their practices.
You try to say that the Occupy movement should be some corporate governance body looking for odorous business practices but you know nothing about how business works, nor do you have a clue about the accounting side of finances.
Its tough to respect you after your post and the Nazi thing, and insulting this city, people on this board and anyone else that disagrees with you.
You need to ask you're self why the vast majority of the city turned against your movement.
I'll summarize and tell you why.
Your group is arrogant, condescending, your group makes ludicrous demands which would come right out of the tax payers pocket. Your group talks a very generic game but its clear that Occupy doesn't know what they are talking about , And you need to lecture and educate from a point of lack of knowledge.
And when people don't blindly follow you, or agree with you, then you stamp your feet, cry pout and call us Nazi's.
I was tongue in cheek when I talked about melting your statue into Knight Rider Lunch boxes, you took it and exposed yourself for the fool you are, now I'm not so sure, if Heart of the Beast represents people that are like minded to you, then maybe it should be melted down, and your movement buried and forgotten.

100 of thousands of people got caught up in the Stanley Cup run, it was a spontaneous celebration of an unbelievable run for the cup.
The Occupy movement ended up with 10 people in tents and the rest of the city telling them to get the hell out and go away.
Stupid comparison written by an a%%

My response to her ridiculous column, it will probably get deleted by her and the backslappers on that board so we will see how open minded she really is, or if its ok for her to insult us, but not ok for us to go after her.
Quote:
This will probably get deleted as you pretty much showed in CalgaryPuck that you're a hypocrite of the highest order, you got exposed as a fool when you tried to debate about Walmart and economics when its clear that you have no clue. You insulted the city of Calgary and its citizen and then you put in a comparison to Nazi's for good measure.
If your going to change the world, maybe you should work on changing yourself first.
You came across as ignorant small minded and intolerant. We were willing to listen to you and debate you, you stooped down to insults of the worst magnitude and stereotyping of the highest order.
I really hope that you don't represent all occupyer's. but you've literally given your group a black eye with you're actions on CalgaryPuck and you're ridiculous blog entry here.

a current topic in the Metal Thread just made me think of this Metallica song, which sums up Occupy Calgary pretty succinctly:
My Friend of Misery
You just stood there screaming
Fearing no one was listening to you
They say the empty can rattles the most
The sound of your voice must soothe you
Hearing only what you want to hear
And knowing only what you've heard
You you're smothered in tragedy
And you're out to save the world
Misery
You insist that the weight of the world
Should be on your shoulders
Misery
There's much more to life than what you see
My friend of misery
You still stood there screaming
No one caring about these words you tell
My friend before your voice is gone
One man's fun is another's hell
These times are sent to try men's souls
But something's wrong with all you see
You you'll take it on all yourself
Remember, misery loves company
Misery
You insist that the weight of the world
Should be on your shoulders
Misery
There's much more to life than what you see
My friend of misery
You just stood there screaming
My friend of misery

Who cares about what they think, looking at the comments, its pretty clear that they believe strongly in stereotypes and that their opinion is the only opinion.

And if Occupy Calgary actually cared about anything beyond being a bunch of spoiled brats, the strategy you initially offered here would have been a better way forward.
Instead, you go off the deep end because someone criticized that sculpture. All of these world changing ideas you have, and you make your last stand over a giant #####ing piece of aluminum.
People aren't stupid, Mandi. The fact that you let one person's opinion that that sculpture should be melted down cause you to flip out and pull an "I'm out, wait, I'm back. Nope, gone again" stunt shows that you really are no better than anyone else in Occupy Calgary. You went from talking about issues to losing it over a disposable piece of art. You are so caught up on your personal wants that you've lost the big picture.
The truth is, I don't think you ever understood the big picture in the first place. You just saw the initial support OWS managed and wanted to be a part of it. You are riding the coattails of someone else's protest, and getting pissed because nobody supports you.
Well, I said it early on: Don't ask anyone to stand with you when you stand for nothing. And when you stand for free condoms, the right to steal electricity and the defence of a chunk of metal, you aren't offering anything for a city to support. We are tired of your whining, and we are tired of your self-righteousness. You want to change the world? Start by changing yourself.
