Unlike some former disingenuous personnel from our teams' recent past, I really believe that Backs and his wife like it here. Plus, they are from a cold country with socialized health care, so it's not too much of a change for them.

Yeah, I remember she did an interview on the Flames website a while back and she told a story about how her friends in Sweden bug her for becoming too Canadianized, which she always denies. Then, one day, she was telling them about something she and Mikael were planning on doing when they got back to Calgary and she said "when we get back home", and her friends jumped on it saying she doesn't even think of Sweden as her home anymore (all in good fun, of course).
Also, I believe both their kids were born in Calgary, so they'll always have that connection to the city.

Backs is a flames lifer.
Ultra competitive, great pro, does a lot with the community and has been through it all. If ever there is a Flame on the roster who will likely only play for one team it's Backs.

He also has trade value. To me, it just means you give him more of a white glove treatment if you can get assets for him in a rebuilding year. You don't cold trade him, but rather have a conversation with him about where he prefers to go, etc, etc. Great guy, but if I'm rebuilding I do consider him as a tradable asset.

We need more of this. He was also the best player in the Oilers series. Such a great player and person. We are lucky to have him.

However, if you look at from the other side. Backlund is now in his 30's, I am sure all of the current Flames are concerned.
Their best player just left, Flames have not yet made any moves what so ever.....
I am sure they expect something to occur.......
Not saying the twitter has any information what so ever.
However its not hard to believe a player would ask for a trade

That cap hit doesn’t account for LTIR correct? But still, they are dumping JP and/or Yamamoto (basically for Evander Kane and Darnell Nurse).

The NHL should be investigating the Mike Smith LTIR thing. The guy was apparently healthy enough to play until the last game and now suddenly may never play again? How convenient. He didn't even look that bad, other than giving the puck away a lot like he usually did. I sense shenanigans on this one. Have they even said what the injury is? Being old and having the pain from wear and tear doesn't count.
