lol apparently the Jays were very close to signing Verlander this past off season.
Houston offered the same amount of money and so he chose to stay there instead.
Bah! I feel like I'd better off having never known that FFS
He'd be a Jay instead of Kikuchi......so yeah, hopefully Kikuchi figures his crap out.

Le sigh. Thornton going to Thornton. But let's be real. No one has a shot against the Yankees. Just a perfectly well oiled machine right now. Elite pitching. Elite hitting. Clutch AB's. Just a great ball club. And from where? You look at their roster and you think playoff team. Not apparently the greatest team that has ever played ball. Just gross.

So I mean. Charlie will not let Stripling go through the order again. God forbid someone do that. But let's keep Thornton in the game to let the Yanks bat around with nobody out. #logic.

Who knew throwing fastballs down the middle could turn out badly?

Yankees fans were pretty much disgusted with their off season and nobody was really predicting them to be contenders. Then this happens. Greatest team ever it looks like.
Sometimes when I check their box scores I think oh good they are 3 in the 8th. Check again 30 minutes later and they up 3.

I’m fully in awe of the Yankees right now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team like that. I remember when the Mariners won 120 games(or something like that) but everyone knew they weren’t that good. And got beat handedly in the playoffs by the Yankees. But this Yankee team is on a whole other level. Unreal.

Yanks are something else. On paper they’re not THAT good but they’re playing super well to say the least so it’s definitely admirable.

Also, why can't the Jays front office build a decent bullpen?
My god even the Orioles bullpen looks dominant now. They clearly don't want to spend big money on a bullpen, and I get that....but holy crap they need to get better at developing bullpen arms if they aren't going to spend money on it.

Very true. Their process seems to be: wait until it becomes crystal clear that there is a need in the bullpen, then try to acquire either reclamation projects/guys whose value has cratered. I still love the Cimber trade but the pen needs strikeout ability. I am finding the complete implosion of Richards to be particularly frustrating as he was incredible for the Jays last year. Essentially they have 4 somewhat reliable arms in the pen: Phelps, Garcia, Mayza, Romano. That is not enough. But it has been somewhat obvious that there has been in a need in the 'pen for a while now.

At least Moreno looks legit so far.
They really need to get him playing other positions, like 2nd/3rd and corner outfield until they resolve the catcher log jam. Especially with guys like Chapman and Bo banged up.

With how great Moreno has looked to start his big league career I think the thing that has surprised me the most is how bloody fast he is. Some of the sprint speed numbers they were throwing out yesterday is bananas. And he’s a catcher?! Fastest catcher alive one would think.

Well liked and seemed like a genuinely good dude. His relationship with Manoah was special and I hope he sticks around the team through this process to help mentor.
From a business perspective this really helps the Jays as it frees up 20 million to really pursue more top end talent in the rotation as well as chip in for the big contract they will need to dole out soon.

Yeah, he's a pure athlete.
They converted him from SS way back.
Weird decision as that is also a premium position, makes you wonder if he would have cut it there with how athletic he is.

I predict the Jays add another SP now, someone who is still under control for at least next season as well.
Probably somebody VERY good too. I'd expect to lose Groshans and one of our catchers in the trade, possibly a prospect starting pitcher as well, and hopefully they get some bullpen help thrown into the trade as well.
Castillo or Montas perhaps?
