Solid results in Shanghai:
Vasek beat Dimitrov 7-5, 7-6 while Milos got by Lorenz 6-2, 6-4.
Off to the third round for both.

Great win for Vasek, Dimitrov has been playing a lot better as of late. I know Vasek recently canned his longtime coach which appears to have provided a new spark for his game.

Upsets galore in Shanghai - Tricky Troicki beat Rafa in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(3) while Kyrgrios lost to Mischa Zverev (the older brother of Alex and outside of the top 100) 6-3 6-1.

hmm I don't know how much of a true upset it is to have Rafa and Kyrgios go out early for any tournament these days.
if you want to feel old and sad, this is the first time in 13 years that Roger and Rafa are both out of the top 4:

I still remember ponytail Roger and beach bum Rafa like it was yesterday.

Milos lost to Jack Sock. Didn't see the match, but an interesting score line: 0-6, 6-4, 7-6.
Vasek lost to Djokovic: 6-4, 6-4.

Well, I guess Sock was due for a win over Milos - He could probably use a little extra time to rest that ankle as well. Didn't see the Vasek - Joker match, but that scoreline indicates that it was a pretty good test for Novak.

By my math Milos moves up to 4th in the world with a decent tournament this week. Nadal/Nishikori did not defend enough points at this event.

Vasek moves up to 117. He needs to get to 104 to get direct entry into the Australian Open.
Polansky has had a sneaky good season. Up to 157 and counting.

The footage is pretty bad and the post-match comments are even worse, in my opinion. Guy needs to get his head straight.
SHANGHAI — Nick Kyrgios will have to pay $16,500 in fines for his bizarre actions at the Shanghai Masters.
The Australian tennis player received one of the largest fines of his career on Friday for his lack of effort and argumentative behaviour during his second-round match. He was fined the maximum $10,000 for showing a "lack of best efforts" in a match, $5,000 for verbal abuse of a spectator and $1,500 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Kyrgios rushed through his 6-3, 6-1 loss to German qualifier Mischa Zverev on Thursday, failing to put any speed on some serves and hitting erratically on his groundstrokes. At one point, he walked toward his chair after floating a serve across the net without even waiting for Zverev's return.
Late in the match, Kyrgios also responded angrily to a fan who criticized him by shouting back, "You want to come here and play?"

Bautista Agut takes out Joker 6-4 6-4 in the Shanghai semis. With a win over Bautista Agut on Sunday, Andy Murray will move even closer to Novak for #1 in the world.

Murray defeats Bautista Agut 7-6(1), 6-1 to take the Shanghai Masters 1000 tourney. He's breathing down Novak's neck and if he continues his strong play, we may have a new number one after the Barclays ATP Finals.

So Kyrgios did in Shanghai what he did in Toronto? His attitude is getting worse, not better, and to behave this way during some of the most important tournaments on the calendar... Honestly, just quit, Nick. It's clear you don't want to be there, so go do something you do enjoy.

Kyrgios seems stuck in one of those places where he obviously doesn't have deep love for tennis, but he also probably has nothing else he can do to sustain himself in life. Andy Murray should send Lendl over his way, if Ivan can't smack some sense into him no one can.

I think he realizes there is no other job he can do where he can make such 'easy' money. He needs a good financial adviser more than he needs another coach. Someone who can help him set himself up for life after only a few more years of playing.

Kind of lost in the fold a bit, but another title for Daniel Nestor. He and Roger-Vasselin won the European Open in Antwerp over Herbert / Mahut (6-4, 6-4).
They are actually 7-0 together in 2016. Not bad for the the 44-year-old

Milos is playing in Basel this week and is seeded #2 (Stan the Man is the top seed). His first match is scheduled for tomorrow at 9 am Calgary time.

Yikes, bad loss for Milos today in the first round of the Swiss Indoors tourney as he dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision to a qualifier.

Shocking loss, but with the injuries he's been dealing with over the last month or two it probably shouldn't be. I don't think we'll see anything close to the early/mid season Milos again until Melbourne.
