Ethiopian Airlines flight 702 Addis Ababa - Rome is 7500 on transponder(hjjack). Heading to Geneva now, reports of 1 engine flameout.

Edit: Has just landed in Geneva.

I've been following @thatjohn on twitter. Suggest looking through his timeline.

No planes are arriving or taking off at Geneva Airport. (not surprising) http://www.flightradar24.com/ETH702/2ba40ab

Ethiopian 767 pilot may have just hijacked his own plane. Landed in Geneva. More to come on this, I imagine.

Good thread on Reddit, with up to date information. Check the top comment for a timeline:

This mean YYC picks up Aeromexico flights?

Weren't we already expecting them to run their 787 for the summer seasonal service?

edit: Guess not, just did a quick DIIO pull and this seems to be the current schedule for Mexico service this year:

YYC CUN Mexico Jun-14 319 5 600
YYC CUN Mexico Jun-14 73H 17 2,958
YYC PVR Mexico Jun-14 319 4 480
YYC PVR Mexico Jun-14 73H 12 2,088
YYC SJD Mexico Jun-14 319 4 480
YYC SJD Mexico Jun-14 73H 9 1,566
YYC SJD Mexico Jun-14 73W 4 544

FYI, last two columns are frequency and seats. Hmm.

edit2: If AeroMexico is running a charter service, it may not show up in DIIO as they generally use GDS data and only scheduled services. If anyone can comment would be appreciated.

I had a very credible source that knew about the Aeromexico 787 charters, apparently that didn't materialize.

Aeromexico does want to operate YYC and YEG to MEX flights, but they are short metal at the moment, but apparently have some new leases coming. So we could see it happen in the near future.

I didn't read the link from Bigtime, but most newer aircraft have extensive flight data monitoring that can send data on things like g load on landing, and based on the numbers would dictate what level of inspection is required.

Watched the 787-8 China Southern itinerary from Guangzhou on final approach into YVR this morning from the office window. Stubby looking plane!

Yup, we should see a daylight departure of it to Luxembourg around 9:20 this morning. Keep your eyes open.

This is so cool, a flight log for a Qantas DC-4 flight in 1976 from Norfolk Island to Sydney:
