Tougher day on the out of town scoreboard. But with the Cubs losing the Jays are only a game back of 1st in the MLB. I don't think they've ever been first in the MLB over an entire season have they?

Who would have thought 2 months ago the Jays would have a better record than the Dodgers and would be 3rd overall in all of baseball.

It's insane, and I'm so pessimistic with my sports time (they did this to me!!), I feel sheepish when things turn around to this level. I guess this is why they play the games and don't hand out standings and trophies due to predictions and ratings. This is so much fun.

I will say it again. Going into the season I predicted 75 wins for the Jays. You’re welcome fellow Jays fans! My sports predictions are always wrong.
Clement and Barger have been a wonderful surprise.

Make sure to send out Social media posts of you stuffing your face full of hot dogs...and don't pay any attention to the game. Be sure to ask others why Bautista isn't in the lineup.

I'm in the group that's stunned at the turn of events. I'm leading the Atkins Hater Club, but I'm seemingly wrong. The results the past couple months have been astounding and in many ways defies logic. But they're getting the tough wins, and it's entertaining to watch. I don't know how they don't try and add a star for both pitching and hitting, but the 180 turn dictates that kinda action. I really hope they don't have to give up one of their three top prospects though.

I would definitely prioritize pitching at the deadline vs adding a bat. I think they need 2 high leverage relievers and one quality starter to be true contenders in the playoffs.

I don't disagree with adding pitching as that's definitely needed in the playoffs and what may be lacking. However, I personally believe all of the "lower" guys are just clicking right now (which is leading to the team success). Odds are Clement and Barger won't be able to keep this up. It could be my early season bias on these two specifically, but it's just an unfounded belief I have at this time. If they can sustain it, great though.

Fair enough - I think I definitely believe in Barger more than most around here. And it never hurts to have an extra power bat. I'm sort of hoping Santander can fix whatever the issue is health-wise and come back looking more like the 2024 version than the early-2025 version, which would be a nice add to the offense.

Agreed. Varsho and Santander coming back should be extra bats. Really need a starter to add to Gausman, Bassitt, Berrios.

I'm excited as a long time Blue Jays fan. I will be attending 1 or more of this weekend's series with the Tigers.
Deadline Needs:
MUST: At least 2 high leverage arms in the bullpen
NICE TO HAVE:
- a starter that would fit in the top 4 (Not necessarily for the playoffs, but rather to ensure they make the playoffs/win the division)
- An additional power bat that's a threat to go deep at all times
If they want to actually win in the playoffs they will need both the 'musts' & the 'nice to haves.' I've found that in recent years the playoffs separates the teams that rely on small ball/small market gimmicks to bridge talent gaps in the regular season to get into the playoffs from the teams that have the actual talent to win best on best games. Houston, both New Yorks, LA Dodgers, and Philadelphia have the actual talent to win post season games and if the Jays want to get in that echelon they need more top end talent both in the lineup and in the bullpen/starting. Some of that could come from within (Santander coming back and being 2024 Santander & Alek Manoah coming back and being at least 4th starter good).

I say go for it. You lose Bo after this season, so this may be the best near-term chance.
Don't make bad deals, but if you get bring in clear upgrades, I don't think any prospect should be off the table.
Banners fly forever.

Yeah. This seems like a "go for it" year to me. This is the weakest the AL has been in my memory - they aren't going to get a clearer path than they have right now.
