Not that I condone violence, but holy hell was it nice to see McDavid get some 'viciousness'. Draisaitl and McDavid sometimes run around and do dirty things. Remember McDavid near the start of this season trying to 'get his team going by stirring things up'? Then he runs away.. oh no, the ref is there, so he returns and face-washes guys behind the ref, until someone gets a hold of him, and then he runs away again, leaving his team mates to clean up the mess.
Zadorov not only saw a team mate get slashed hard (and it was a vicious slash by McDavid), and he took the opportunity to not only stick up for his team mate, but also - for all intents and purposes - accepted the invitation to rough-up the best player on the opposing team.
I don't support all of this stickwork - that's not the point. I just think if you are going to live by the sword, you better be willing to die by the sword sometimes too. I get tired of seeing stars take some liberties and NEVER have to answer the bell at any time. Leon Slewfoot "I check your cups" Draisatl has his gloves crazy glued on - wouldn't even fight Tkachuk. That's fine, he shouldn't have to fight if he doesn't want to. However, I end up hoping that he gets slew-foot on every shift, or someone spears him in the nuts on every shift. That's part of the reason these guys are so unlikeable to me. It isn't about 'answering the bell', it is the fact that they poke and prod and cause these shenanigans, and then raise their hands up in the air as if they are angels, to the point that even journalists I love like Duhatschek writes articles about how these stars need to be protected.
I agree that stars need to be protected, but I disagree they shouldn't die by the sword if they are so willing to live by it too.

What a damn shame that high-stick on McFragile wasn't called in game 2, letting the Oilers tie the game and eventually win in OT. A Vancouver 3-0 series lead would taste so good right now.
If Soucy is out (and I think he will probably get a game) then likely it's Noah Juulsen coming into the lineup. Juulsen's a right shot, so I doubt they pair him with Myers (it would be an even bigger train wreck) so then maybe they put him with Zadorov and cole moves to the left side of Myers. (Cole shoots left, I think, but plays right). All of the shifting will give them two pretty mediocre bottom pairs so watch for Hughes and Hronek (who also seems pretty meh from what I've noticed watching this series) to get wonder twins ice time.

They should have upped their offer and acquired Tanev as well!
McDavid starts a fight, gets his head caved in and then the people he started the fight with are the ones who get punished?
Thats some serious bull....
Which is why I don't watch much hockey anymore. League feels like it does not apply the rules equally to everyone, from the head office down to the refs. It feels more like the WWE than a sport.

I just don't get all these comments that Soucy intended to hit McDavid in the throat/face. There's no way he expected McDavid to fold like a cheap tent after Zadorov hit him. Duhatschek seems to under the assumption that it was intentional:
It always amuses me that these fat bastards with no game, act tough behind the plexiglass, but if he came face to face with Z he'd cry like a little girl and beg for a autograph.

Thats it. If you're going to Fine Zadorov then Fine McDavid. If you're going to suspend Soucy then suspend McDavid.
I remember once, long ago in a long forgotten time, there was implemented a measure to stop issues like this. I broke out a dusty old tome and lo and behold there it was!...it was called...'The Instigator Rule.'

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Its funny, with all of this talk about penalties and the woe is me discussions, and Skinner completely falling apart, and the Oilers looking at their bench and seeing Pickard there. The Oilers are destracted from their real problems.
They suck 5v5, their depth players never do anything, their defense continues to make incredibly blunders at the wrong time.
For all of their shots in the third period last night, were they all that threatening? Not really, there was a lot of outside stuff, and the Canucks did a good job of letting their goalie make the first save and clearing out the rebounds.
If the Oilers are thinking its just goaltending, then they're in big trouble mental state wise. If they're thinking they're getting screwed by the Officials they'll lose this series.
Do I like the odds of Vancouver winning 2 out of 4 games? Sure, I would feel better about that then the Oilers winning 3 out of 4 games.

Thing is that it doesn't look accidental. He just skated by with his stick at that level with determination that if his head was in the path....so be it.

I just happened to be listening to canuckleheads radio at the time and they were totally calling it out as “accidentally on purpose” as soon as it happened. They upgraded to “probably didn’t mean to cut Hughes but wanted to hit him high enough with the stick”.
