In the future, I would like to see a big 3rd or 4th line of Colborne - Jankowski - Shore

Does that matter? We will always have room for a 6'5" 225 pounder that can skate and play multiple positions. If we find better options he moves donw the lineup. That is how you develop depth, especially with guys that can play multiple positions.
So when a youg guy starts playing to his potential and looks like he's on the verge of a breakout you should use him as a sweetener? Hey, maybe we should use Bennett as a sweetener to move up in the draft?
Good god, you include what will be a 32 year old David Jones as part of forward core, but are willing to currently throwaway a 25 year old just coming into his own? Glad you're not running this team. David Jones will be lucky is he survives this summer as a Calgary Flame let alone earn another contract that would see him as part of this team in two years. I'd actually be surprised to see Backlund be around in that time frame as well.
Well, we know for certain that Colborne plays well with Monahan. We also know he can play any role given him. So I'm not concerned about where he plays. And until Hunter Smith proves he can play in the professional ranks, and Emile Poirier shows he's capable of playing in the NHL, Joe Colborne should have nothing to worry about. I don't see the other players being in a position to compete with Colborne unless they can show they are capable of playing the off wing. If anything, most of those players are competition for Backlund, who should be very concerned about holding onto his job with those young turks coming up. That also doesn't take into consideration Mark Jankowski being a possible fit into the third pivot role.
Colborne fits in quite nicely. I could see this as our forward depth in two or three years.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Colborne
Ferland-Bennett-Poirier
Granlund/Klimchuk-Jankowski-Smith
Bouma-Arnold-Agostino
Carroll-Shore-Hathaway
You could take any of those top three right wingers and move them up and down the lineup and I don't think you are going to hurt yourself in any way. That is what depth can do for you. Those guys left out should be able to help us improve our blue line, which makes the future very bright. A big part of that is Joe Colborne and the 4th round draft pick we invested in him.

Cool story bro. Tried to stay awake reading it all but I got the jyst. You disagree. Take a breath.

I don't think Colbourne would be dealt in favour of rookies like Hunter Smith on a hope... it would take Hunter Smith pushing Colbourne out of the lineup.

It really depends on what it's for. If you're reading for a need eg. defense, you aren't getting someone decent without giving something decent up. No one is suggesting trade Colborne because he isn't going to pan out, but precisely because he is and we may need something else and he has value.
Having said that, I think he has more value to the flames than most teams because of his size, so I'm not sure trading him is the best idea. We need to drop the "don't trade him because he's good" thing though. If we want the flames to trade for defense, something valuable will have to go the other way

I'd vote Backlund before I would Colborne off of the Island. And I think Backlund is good.
Right now it's super touchy to tinker with the locker room. I'm pretty sure Treliving and Hartley have their fingers on the pulse of which player would hurt the locker room the most if they were traded. Remember when Lombardi was traded? Locker room went to crap after he left, kind of felt like he was the glue keeping things together.
I'm losing my apples when people talk about trading Hudler, and I am sure there's going to be a poster flipping their gourd for every single player mentioned in trade scenarios.

Hunter Smith and Colborne are completly different types of players, not sure why some people think they are mutually exclusive.
Both have substantial talents the other lacks.
IMO they will both be on the team some day. Joe needs more beef and to keep improving his face off skills.

That would be a great fit actually, Lowery deserves a shot at a head-coach job IMO, hope he gets it.

I 100% agree with this ^ Loved when Lowry coached the Hitmen. Got the most out of his players. A team with some young pieces would likely benefit.

Was it Sergei or Andrei that was the wanker? I remember one was good and not a prissy primadonna and the other was actually good but was dragged down into the mud because of his brother.
I am assuming Andrei is the good one.

Andrei is the good one, drafted 10th overall by Montreal despite concerns over his epilepsy.
He's 30 now and has produced at a decent clip in Russia. I'm not necessarily suggesting we sign him, just pointing out that he's looking to return to the league.
