I thought it was a missed opportunity to at least attempt to connect to earlier seasons. They could have had some of the androids in season one working on Data at the institute, unable to make progress. Then, Jordi shows up with the person info that allows Data to wake up again, while the androids join the crew for a bit. I'm sure they could have found ways to utilize them in the story. At least maybe not ignore absolutely everything from season one?

Wha....? No.
They should pray that nobody remembers Season 1 and then learn how to spell 'Geordi.'

FWIW they're not ignoring season 1 because they've talked about how it ended for Picard multiple times as down stream implications of that are part plot?

I'm sitting by my earlier assertion that this is essentially a fan fiction. The reunion in the ready room scene was eerily similar to the reunion panel I attended at calgary comic con years ago lol.
It's enjoyable but also a terrible hack job. It doesn't make sense with anything else in cannon. The nostalgia references are as subtle as a root canal. The characters are caricatures of themselves. But we are seeing them all together.

That Vadic died in basically a horrible manner. I've always thought that Amanda Plummer was a really good character actress who specialized in playing strangely intense maniacal characters. But Vadic just seemed to be intentionally over the top to the point that she came across as a generic mustache twirling cackling villain. She became boring in a hurry.
I thought the Data vs Lore in head thing was a little silly. I mean here are all my memories, ha ha I fooled you because these memories made me me, but you Lore treat them like trophies so I win.
So the justification of the founders was that they were cruelly experimented on by Humans. Meanwhile there's something weak and ancient in Jacks brain that surrounds him with darkness. So who's the space satan?
They have two episodes left to establish a big bad, that's probably using both the Humans and the Founders.
I kind of groaned at the Real Steel fight scene with Jack and Geordies daughter rolling around in a synchronized manner to defeat the bad guy in the Kabuki mask.
Worf needs to die, he just needs to go.

The Data/Lore struggle stuff came off a bit too Matrix-ey and trite for my liking. It is every internal struggle between good vs evil personality that has ever played out on TV and movie. They could have done something a little more unique. Maybe a Spot virus that Pacman’s up little Lores like kibble in a game.
Well, I think we can say that we've reached full fan service after this week's episode. I'm not sure there's much left.
Spoiler!
Well Kirk's skeleton was in the museum, maybe we see him in the Captain's chair again.
I'm kind of tired of the whole we have to have the Borg as the lynchpin of the series. It feels like lazy booking (Jim Cornette) to have the Borg and the Changlings team up as the tag team from hell.
We see that Picard is an awful Dad when confronted by his son's linage. We see Deanna is just overall rotten at her job between last week and this week.
We get two pieces of fan service with Shelby and the Enterprise D. Which somehow Geordi on his own rebuild which is amazing considering that the last time we saw it, it was cratered.
Its kind of bitter sweet seeing the Borg Queen again, especially after the death of Alice Werching earlier this year.
Oh and the whole automation thing being used against Star Fleet felt like Battlestar Galactica. The bringing the enterprise D out of mothballs felt like the awful scene from Battleship the board gam . . . movie.
Oh and assimilating only people under 25 was a weird choice.
I'm not saying this was a bad episode, there was a lot of good to it. There was some really nice tension to it.
I just slapped my head and said "The Borg again?" They literally went from an awesome villain to being the Jobber of the universe in Voyager and then we had last years Borg story.
Oh and they killed Shaw, He was actually the best character in this series without question to me. At least he got a good death I guess, but I would have rather seen him emerge from this whole thing at the Bridge of the Enterprise Z or whatever.

Pretty sure I could have written this plot when I was 10. Complete with e-d rebuild. This episode was so cheesy I was actually laughing at my TV. Admiral Shelby. Lol
