No suspension or fine is embarrassing for the NHL. What a joke of a league.

Its unacceptable as well.

It changes the rules for everyone.......which is the real mistake with this "decision".

Exactly. What happens if Bennett does the exact same thing to McDavid tomorrow night? Guarantee it won’t just be a two minute penalty. The hypocrisy of the league knows no bounds.

Obviously it would be very shady if this was the case but I could see it from this league. It should be as simple as looking at intent and what draisaitl did… and that should be enough to suspend him.
So it's in a way saying if you want me to suspend Draisaitl, I'll have to suspend Barkov as well. What a joke!

They are close off the ice. I can’t see him doing anything dirty. Maybe hard hits.

Problem is that this plays into the oilers hands. Bettman and the league don’t want to be made to look like fools. The instruction to the refs by the league will likely be to call the game tightly to make sure nothing gets out of hand. Can’t have Bennett hit McDavid the same way Barkov got hit by Draisaitl - that would feel like a challenge to the authority and integrity of the league.

So, instead, the refs will call 4 penalties against the panthers in the first period alone - letting the McPowerplay go to work. Of course, they’ll be able to say it was “fair” when they give the Panthers 3 powerplays in the 3rd period when they are down by 3 goals. In reality, that’s not calling it fair. That’s calling the game the way the oilers want it. They will trade penalties all day with any team in the league if it means McDavid gets his cookies with the man advantage.

If Bennett or anyone else want to do that to McDavid… they will need to make sure it injures him for it to be worth it for the Panthers.

Sorry sorry sorry...

Let me refrain...

*once the Panthers are up 3 goals late in the 3rd period like they have been no problem each of the first 2 games, Bennett is gonna have a fiiiiiiiield day with McDraibabies*

The league tries so hard to be seen as credible against the other major pro sports in the US, yet fails to realize that they are their own worst enemies.

This would be fantastic. Would make for a beat-down of the oilers both on the scoreboard and on their whiny stars. And it would embarrass the league with how to respond after setting the precedent with no suspension for Draisaitl.

What a joke. If that was a 4th line scrub 100% it would be a suspension.

How is the Soucey one a suspension and this isn't? Draisatl play was way more dirty and it injured a star player.

I don't get it. It really seems like the league just wants to prolong the series and keep a star player in for game 3. Or am I completely over thinking that?

Also a big FU to Sportsnet for crying for 12 hours about the Soucey play. While having a panel on where only Bieksa has the balls to call this an elbow. Disgraceful company.

I really believe in the playoffs the whistle should go away. That said, if you're going to discipline throughout the playoffs, make it an even playing field. Sport is becoming less competitive and more about burning the other guy with a flop or a dirty play.

Well, I'm heading off to bed. Expecting to wake up in the morning to the news that, while unavailable for game three, Barkov has been fined $5000 for embellishment.

If that was ANY player on the Panthers, it would definitely be a suspension. The only reason they didn't suspend Pissy is because the league can't afford to have one of their darling superstar wonder twins missing any games, and they need the series to go long.

Florida has to be careful here. They need to ignore this crap and just keep playing their game. Don't get sucked into retaliating, stay disciplined, and keep it 5 on 5 as much as possible. Bobrovsky is in their heads, and they can't win unless they're constantly on the McPP.
