I remember that offseason. There were 3 players that got overpaid on the tail end of their career and got about the same money/term. David Backes was one of the others I beleive.

These guys all got more than 5 years at $6M

Backes: 5 x $30M
Lucic 7 x $42
Eriksson 6 x $36M
Okposo: 7 x $42M

Then these two were pretty bad too:

Nielsen: 6 x $31.5M
Brouwer: 4 x $18.5M

Terrible free agency.

Biggest mistake though of all of them is Flames repeating the mistake 2 years later and using all their cap space to sign Neal 5 x $5.75M when they had Tkachuk as a pending RFA.
