Why are you reading Rick Bell here? There are plenty of better sources covering this story.

The bylaw is stupid but elevating Rick bell does not add value.

I imagine because the Herald is still the main source of local news for a lot of people. What sources of municipal news can you recommend for people aren’t on twitter or Facebook?

Livewire Calgary also does good coverage on municipal politics. Scott Dippel at CBC Calgary has been solid for so many years, as is Jason Markusoff when he writes about it.

This tweet, did not go well for Terry...

https://twitter.com/user/status/1752127962424692867

And you know, he's been very good to deal with on issues in our ward/neighbourhood so far. Then he goes and throws things like this out there, he really needs to remember he got in because 3 others split that progressive vote.

How about using the Calgary Herald.

What a moron. So he admits people have a choice to get what they want at a very minor cost, but yet they must cancel happy meal day because they are too cheap to get a bag...or, like, figure out life? No wonder our world is so ####ed, people can't even navigate such a complicated choice!

Not that I 100% agree with this bylaw, but damn, stupid people are even stupider than I thought, and there is more than a Sean Chu of them on council. That's the key takeaway here.

Well Rick Bell is a columnist for the Calgary Herald, but what can I say. It popped in my feed and I read it.

It's interesting to me that people just dismiss the message entirely because they don't like him. Like sure, he's not a great writer and all that, but he's not wrong here.

If you were measuring the outrage it would be off the dial. If you had a telescope, you would be looking at the far reaches of outer space.

I don't do xitter...but this is basically admitting to distracted driving, right? Taking a picture from the driver seat while the car is in Drive with more distraction fuel strewn haphazardly on his console. Brilliant.

But can any of those write about it in single sentence paragraph form?

Instead of reporting factually on the issue it’s cranked up with outrage. It’s designed to illicit anger rather than inform. The defence of its not wrong really isn’t good enough. It’s not journalism.

Poor Terry was trying to reply to everyone, he did say that while the car was in drive he was in a parking stall taking this picture.

He needs to hide his distracted driving and not admit to it like the rest of us.

I am glad Rick Bell is on the case. Fighting against 15 cents (for the every penny counts crowd) and for the poor introverts who might be too shy to ask for cutlery or ketchup.

People are just stupid babies who hate change.

For the first time in forever, this bylaw has actually forced me to pause and question whether I need a bag in the first place. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t, so I ask for one when I do.

Glad I’m not as dumb as Wong, McLean, and Bell. Can’t believe people not their heads with those idiots. Grow up.

Bell is a columnist, not a City Hall beat reporter. Both are journalism, just different types of journalism. His opinion pieces are meant to generate a strong reaction. Those are the marching orders given to every journalist who gets a column. The fact he’s still employed when 90 per cent of his peers have been laid off or left the industry suggests he does his job (drive engagement) very well.

City comes up with some dumb, petty, nonsense that's mildly annoying.

People get annoyed at the dumb, petty nonsense that's annoying.

HAHA. WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT DUMB PETTY NONSENSE THATS ANNOYING!!!!!!! IDIOTS!.

Do you have to order multiple bags for big orders or is it a $0.15 all in charge?? Do you have to make a guess on bag count based on what you bought? Why does Terry Wong need a bag for his drink?

Also, can we trade this bylaw in for the grocery store bag one?

I think that the most irritating is the "well, we know that this is incredibly stupid, but it's for your own good" kind of approach that we see in return.

And my favourite about the grocery store bags is that you have people who grab some bags in the store, only to find that they needed more and have to have the line wait while they grab one more pack of bags. We can't just sell these at the till now, for our own good, and rather than sell the 1 that you need you have to buy 5. That will really cut down on waste and over use.

This was hilarious to watch him get ratio'd last night.

Let me count a few ways this is stupid.
  1. Car is in drive
  2. Nice Infiniti
  3. Probably spent more than $0.15 in gas idling
  4. A paper bag keeps your fries warm?
  5. ....And stops your drink from spilling?
  6. Now we're just going to all give up and EAT OFF THE FLOOR??
  7. Happy meals don't actually have a charge for the single use fee
  8. But people are AFRAID OF TELLING THEIR KIDS NO
  9. You can ask for straws etc and they give them to you for free
  10. Probably could save the $0.15 by putting it in eco mode
