For me tier 1 is made up of D Sutter and AV. Slight edge to D Sutter. I love that old farmer.

Tier two is Tippett and Krueger. I'm kind of fascinated by Krueger to be honest, but I'm more than fine with either of these guys.

Tier three is Trotz and Ruff. I'm good with either.

After that, I said I'd take anyone other than GG, and I stand by that... But I'm not super excited by Peters or the others in the poll.

Maloney isn't even in Calgary is he? He's just a consultant more or less, right? I'm not sure it's that big a deal if they hire Tippett. If it is, then ditch Maloney. Head coach is a more important position than consultant or whatever Maloney is.

What Sutter did in LA was abnormal.
I think it's either his strategy to get the Kings in as a bubble team to stream to into the playoffs or his teams are either too tired and bruised up going into the final stretch of the seasons. The first cup he won with the Kings was very similar to what happened with the Flames. It was a fresh start for the players after a coaching change and everyone was psyched up and ready to play for him going into the playoffs. Like what Sutter also said, the Kings were also more skilled than the Flames ever was and they were able to use their size and speed at those times to pound the opponents over long series. History also shows Sutter hockey is not sustainable over the 3rd or 4th season with him behind the bench. It's hard work over long seasons. His style probably took a toll on his players or they tuned out by the 4th or 5th season.

I wouldn’t pat ourselves on the back for our outstanding taste in coaches.
Do you realize, those are the 3 most successful coaches in the 2017/18 season from that list?

Using hindsight, can you make a better pick than what the CP masses chose out of that list of 25 potential coaches 2 years ago?

I just checked Bill Peters' HockeyDB page. First of all, he shoots right and we need more of that around here. Secondly, he played for the Hobemma Hawks back in the 80s. This guy is a warrior.

edit - jokes aside, his coaching record in terms of qualifying for the playoffs is atrocious. I'd like my vote back please.

Please don’t follow up with 95 points being unacceptable. It’s 2 wins and an OT loss off your magical 100 point number.
I didn't say 95 points was unacceptable. I said teams that squeak into the playoffs as a lower seed don't usually win Cups and so I'd rather have a coach with a track record of finishing much higher in the standings take over the Flames.

Daryl Sutter, then put Martin Gelinas as the power play coach and motivate him just like in 2004 to get the job done.

Let's get the last coach who got over a hundred points with the Flames (and that was not in the clutch and grab era).

Maybe he’s not as bad as he’s looked for his entire NHL coaching career?

That’s pretty sound logic, right? Let’s hire him.

Gelinas should be offered a job as the video review judge.
