I will make a new threads for the games then. Thanks for the feedback!
This is a perfect example why too. Posted this 6 pages ago and it's long buried:

looking at the highlights, I feel really bad for the Heat players. One of the best AHL teams, exciting hockey, yet they have to play in front of what, 2000 people? They don't deserve all those empty seats. I know PMM and some other insiders have explained why and everything, I just find it really sad that they can't draw an AHL worthy attendance unless they play the Canucks farm team.

2013/14 General Heat Discussion Thread
It IS a crummy situation, but there ARE some benefits to it.
Real hockey fans can go and watch every game, affordably without having to fight for tickets.
Walk in practices are commonplace.
Everyone in attendance is a real fan of the home team, no opposing jerseys in sight, unlike Calgary where the arena is filled with Fans of the other frickin teams.
It saves the Flames a bunch of money.
Also, would you be lining up to go and watch the Canucks minor leaguers play hockey?

Also wanted to throw in a yes please for the individual threads.
I mostly lurk in the heat forums but I like reading about the games and the players through this thread and coming in here I don't know where I left off.
Appreciate all the work!

An individual thread for a 2 game set sounds like a great idea. Regular lurker here and it definitely would sort out the news and game time discussions out nicely.

Maybe those of you who follow the team closely can answer this. What's up with Sven on line 2? Is it a coaching decision to force him to think 2-way game more than pure offense?

just saw that Max Power has almost tripled his production this year: he had 21 points in 67 games last year, and with 37 in 40 this year, he is currently on pace for 62 points in 67. Kudos Max!!!

Sven's play hasn't dictated he be put on the 1st line. Granlund/Reinhart/Jones have outplayed him. Actually up until the last couple of games, the 2nd line was maybe a little far fetched based on his performance. Had he not stepped it up in the last couple of games, I dare say benching wasn't a far off possibility. The Heat are a good team and based on play, Sven could have been pushed out of the lineup for guys who were playing well.
That being said, the last couple of games you can sort of see baby steps in Sven where he's not being a little more physical, he's being more aggressive in his passing and he's fighting for his chances. So the message is getting through.
I believe it's also a mandate from the Flames that he learn a two-way game so Ward is trying to teach him that and get him comfortable in that role. If/when Sven kicks into beast mode where he is an unstoppable offensive machine, then he can be just offensive. Until then he will need to play a 2 way role to make the lineup.

Good to see Trupp released. Not sure why they would sit an actual prospect (Hanowski) for a guy like Trupp.

25 points in his last 22 games. He's really grown that part of his game. Very encouraging.

With our current center depth however, I'd like to see him transition to RW at some point for a better chance on the top-6 with the Flames. Didn't he play on the wing when on a line with his brother?

So Markus Granlund set a Franchise Record last night:
Quote:
Brandon Astle @brandon_astle
With 2 points last night, Granlund is now the all-time single season rookie points leader in Heat franchise history. 36 points on the year.
|
And looks like Granlund or Street may set another Franchise record before the season ends:
Quote:
Brandon Astle @brandon_astle 47m
He (Granlund) also has the most goals by a rookie (20) in franchise history. Kolanos has the all-time single season goal scoring record of 30 in 11-12.
|
Granlund needs 10 goals in 29 games and Street needs 12 in order to break the goal record. Realistically, I think Granlund is going to be the one to break that record.

The Heat has only been around a few seasons but a solid accomplishment still. It would be interesting to see how Granlund compares to the all-time Flames farm team records.

One day my real job is going to ask me what I do all day at work...
Here is what I can find as rookie stats for Flames farm team from 1993-2014. These are the top players (and some recognizable names) as many rookies had 1 or 2 points and the list would have gone on for awhile.
I've tried to ensure the players listed fall under the rookie definition.
Granlund is already mid pack with just over half the season played (Spoiler due to size):

And I think you are overstating the difference.
The NCAA is above the CHL, simply by virtue of it being 19-22 year olds as opposed to 16-19 year olds.
Look at Corban Knight - he has had a very solid year transitioning from the NCAA. Looking at his stats, over the two seasons:
NCAA: 49 P, 41 G, 1.19 PPG
AHL: 31 P, 45 G, 0.69 PPG
If we project Johny G at the same conversion rate, we get:
NCAA: 53 P, 27 G, 1.96 PPG
AHL: 1.13 PPG
There are not too many 1+ PPG players in the AHL and if JG can contribute at anywhere near that, it would be a very big boost to a team that is already pretty strong offensively.
Edit: and hopefully Monahan can join in as well once the 67s are done

I too would vote for separate game threads and I think the idea of a single thread for a set of games is brilliant!

^ was searching for heat related material when this popped out at me. Could you imagine this club with TJ Hensick on it!? Hartford will not make the playoffs this year, is there any way to acquire a player like him at the trade deadline? There is no AHL draft so I guess players can only be traded for other players... Can you trade a waiver position?

There is a "real" conversion rate for all these leagues called NHLE.
Basically, you take whatever their scoring rate is in their league, and you multiply it by the converting number and you should get approximately how he should perform based on the history of players that have come to the NHL through those various routes.
So, for NCAA to NHL with Gaudreau the math is 0.41 x 82 x 1.97 = 66pts in a full NHL season.
And according to these numbers, scoring is only 3 percentage points easier in the NCAA than the AHL. To translate Johnny's AHL numbers the math would be more like 1.97 x 76 x .97 = 145 points in a full AHL season. Darren Haydar had 122 points in 73 games in 06-07.
How crazy is that?
