I'm not talking about WAR or any of that other advanced stat stuff. I'm saying his bat is a problem because his batting average is a consistent problem. Weak batting average. That's been his achilles heel for his career.
That has been the way he is.

He’s still 95th in offensive WAR . So while his D certainly elevates him into one of the best players in MLB , his offense is still top 100 in the league as well
Yes his BA is low , and he’s streaky (he leaks out and struggles on high FBs when he’s starting early) - but he has been extremely good this season

I think he's going to get a phone call from someone reminding him he works for Rogers about that. That was hilarious.

June schedule is frightening (BAL, NYY, CLE, BOS, MIL)
Sure hope they can continue to make hay here against DET, CWS and PIT

Sports are weird sometimes.
I remember in 18-19 the Flames top line lost their mojo when suddenly the purple Gatorade disappeared.
Seems maybe the jacket has similar powers.
Sometimes these teams just need to let these guys have fun and play loose, in the end sports are supposed to be fun.

Didn't the Twins just have a rally sausage or some crap like that flown to them on the road and then won their next game to snap a long losing streak?
Athletes and their superstitions lol

It's actually kind of funny looking at this thread - https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showth...=189696&page=2 - most people actually were saying moving on from Teo or Gurriel was needed.
In the end the return on those deals is more the issue, but the managment team did what a lot of fans and media were calling for at the time...improve the defense and pitching/bullpen at the expense of the bats...they just overrotated on that and the trades they made were questionable.
The one telling thing though is it's three seasons now where Vlad hasn't been able to figure out his launch angle issues...I can't believe this team is hesitant to try a new batting coach (or even just try to bring Dante Bichette back).

Just reading this now, I think the Jays transition from being an offensive team to a more balanced team with improved D was the right idea after the 2022 playoff loss to the Mariners.
They sacrificed the offense from Teo and Gurriel to improve the D. Not a bad plan IMO, but what nobody saw coming was at the exact same time they also saw a huge dip in offensive production from Vlad, Springer and Kirk. So instead of just losing Teo/Gurriel on offense which would have been fine, they
had basically 5 bats either gone or not producing like they had in 2021 and 2022.
Because the pitching was healthy and strong they were still able to win 89 games in 2023, which IMO is a testament to the depth on the roster, but so far this season those bats haven't really bounced back, plus Bo has also scuffled and the pitching hasn't been healthy.
Still time to turn it around though.

Yeah, still time but not much.
Looks like 7 teams, give or take, after final wildcard. Don't have to worry about them if you win 75 more games, but...

How is the wall in the outfield not flush? A ball getting stuck in the wall seems not right.

It's times like these where I wish they can reallocate some of yesterday's runs to today's game.
