[QUOTE=Doctorfever;9374921]So we can’t trust him because he might ‘change his mind’? Not sure that’s a whole pile better than being a liar.[/QUO

PP used to wear suits now he doesn't apparently and says he wears boots, is that lying?

I would be totally willing to compare the list list of Canadian conservative politicians on their truthfulness compared to their counterparts on the left- you start

Immigration - infrastructure has to define the level of immigration. This includes housing availability. You can't destroy the standard of living for people already in Canada, based on a metric saying that we need more people, without including all available variables.

Military - funding is way below where it should be, for way too long. I actually think that it would now cost way too much to rebuild a conventional military from what is essentially Scratch. Some outside of the box thinking is needed. Funding and follow through.

Environment- Canada has really very little effect on climate change. We like to think that we are big players, but we are not. And we don't lead anyone by example. No one is watching. Make money hand over fist, and then mandate a good portion of the windfall into solving global problems, that you would give the world for free.
Building an Arctic presence supported by ice breakers, subs, and drones seems like a priority and a way to build capability without as much new personnel as the land forces. Sounds like that's Carney's plan, I assume Poilievre's too. The Arctic is where the action will be in the second half of the century when navigation is year-round.

Edit: not sure about the less personnel part, but it's definitely a way to spend $ in a hurry!

Which of the men in suits running to lead this country can advocate for the boots?

So I posted about Mark Carney's book, Value(s)earlier a few months ago. At that time I had only read the introduction, and since then it has been neglected.
Well, I am on a holiday and am now getting through it, and I must say I am very impressed.

I would love to hear some feedback from anyone with a finance background who may have read it. I believe his record on finance to be above reproach and his knowledge base is sound, but the thing that I'm most impressed with is his recounting of the 07-08 crisis.

Aside from being gripping reading, it is obvious that his ability to lead through a crisis is extraordinary. He is humble, but his account leaves no doubt in my mind that he is motivated by collective goals, and he has the type of courage that people follow.

He took the position as governor of the Bank of Canada in spring of 2008. Who would take that appointment at that time if they weren't motivated by a good greater than their own?

Wild to me that the leaders of both major parties grew up in Alberta.

In a news release, the party shared excerpts from the International Brotherhood Of Boilermaker’s vice president, Arnie Stadnick’s "letter to Canadians".

“It is in the interest of moving forward that the Office of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Canada is proud to announce today our endorsement for Pierre Poilievre and all the Conservative candidates across Canada in this federal election,” Stadnick writes.

“Pierre gets it. He knows and understands that the surest and most sustainable route to providing a cleaner environment is through technology, not dismantling our energy sectors, raising taxes, importing energy from other nations, and shipping Canadian jobs abroad. Building and expanding energy infrastructure here at home with high-paying, high-quality employment opportunities with strong vibrant apprenticeship systems is the way to go.”

Added Stadnick: “Pierre Poilievre’s commitment to Canada goes beyond our natural resources – he is also committed to protecting Canadian workers, with programs like his recently-announced 'Boots not Suits' plan. This plan will provide funding for apprentice training and facilities, enhance safety, and make it easier for workers to go where the work is across Canada. This plan is designed to strengthen the workforce and reduce reliance on foreign labour, adding 350,000 Canadian workers to job sites over five years.”
Message seems to be gaining some traction. I will have to read up on it more.

In fairness though Edmonton is barely Alberta.

The Liberals announced the other day that Polytechnique shooting survivor, Nathalie Provost, is running for them this election. Today, Mark Carney, attempted to introduce her but he got her name wrong on multiple occasions and tied her to the wrong school shooting in Canada. This is a pretty significant gaffe for Carney because of the importance of the Polytechnique massacre in Quebec and in Canadian history. It is also significantly important event around which much of the Liberal gun ban has been focused.

Just watching this smug rightwing moron trying to explain why he won't apply for security clearance. Oh I had it when i was a cabinet minister. That was 10 years ago.

"they'll bring me into a dark room".. I sure hope they do. Complete with anal probe.

You are a god damn deplorable moron if you vote for this piece of dog sit.

He apologized, and she said it wasn’t an issue, they were understandable mistakes, and he did not mistake the essence who she was and what she stood for.

If it’s actually important, that will be enough. But if people want to use Polytechnique to play political games instead, that’ll show itself too.

I can agree it’s unfortunate to mess it up.

That gaffe is right up there with:

Marlaina - hey US, don’t put tariffs on right now it’s helping the liberals, would you mind holding off for a bit?

PP - security clearance? If I get that they will discover which foreign nationals helped me win the leadership race!

Unrecoverable circumstances for the liberals.

When faced with scandals that would make you unfit to lead, best to turn around and pretend to be offended for people in the province you spend 90% of your energy disparaging because someone didn’t do word good.

Both doofuses absolutely can. It's an empty slogan, only being used by the candidate who is a policy wonk that hasn't held a real, actual job in his adult life - let alone one requiring boots.

To be crystal clear I 100% agree with you- but this is absolutely not the grace you would provide to a right leaning politician if the same thing happened and they did it.

We might mock PP a little more than Carney, but the desperation of calgarygeologist's post reeks more than a dumpster full of week-old diapers.

South of us is what would happen if the PPC and Mad Max won the election.
