I think this is what he is. Plays good enough a lot of the time, and is not going to dazzle you but not going to quit either.

Obviously it hasn’t been a great year for him on a number of fronts but he still has a chance to get better. He does need a solid running attack to balance things out; I think Michel was a good mid season add as well.

Now to go for the home-and-home sweep!

What a game!

I haven't been to a game since 2018 or so. Gave up my seasons tickets a few years before that when kids came along.

My oldest is finally at the age where he can be engaged in a game, make it through the whole thing, and be up a bit later than usual on a school night. I think this game may have got him hooked the same way my dad did 30 some-odd years ago when my family and Slanter's family would go together.

I will say, a 2pm start would have been better.

But, even though McMahon is still a dump, the game day experience seems much improved over past years. Gridiron Gardens had a lot of things to see and do, the in-game promotions were more engaging and interesting, and the food lineups moved decently (probably because it's not as busy!). But I worry that a crappy, boring team is going to result in too many missing out/it going away sometime. Either way, we'll be back again for sure.

Also, I can't believe Maier is leading the league in passing yards.

And Elk's QB should be McTre-vid

So glad to hear that. Was wondering if you were at this one.

I was there with my kids too (and my dad). Youngest came for the fighter jets and the mini footballs... both were in short supply through the third quarter, and I was thinking I'd made a big mistake... I mean, you want them to fall in love with the game and the team, and it was tough going for awhile there. But that fourth quarter... they could go to every game for the rest of their lives and they might only see something like that a handful of times. That's why we love sports. Experiencing that with them was just great.

Maier is the only QB who hasn't been injured.

Wow that's less than I thought but an amazing crowd. In true Canadian fashion I was apologized to by two parents tonight. I was swearing very badly and my friends made me speak to a parent. He laughed and said they hear way worse at home.

Then I semi dove for an inflatable football after 8 beers and three shots and spilled half a beer over a young girl. I felt soooo bad and was ready for whatever was coming. The dad laughed and said the crowd is waaaay better than anything this season and said he saw what I was attempting. Got high fives from both his kids, lol.

To me he's Matt Nichols when he's playing well. You can win with that type of QB but you need a strong surrounding team and Jake hasn't been afforded that as special teams, the defense, as well as offensive line and WR's haven't been great at times this season. If the Stamps choose in the offseason to stick with Maier then I would hope that Dickenson focuses on improving the defense that's not performed well against key rivals like the Lions and Bombers.

That said I think Stamps fans need to realize that Jake leads the league with 13 Interceptions, is last in QB rating amongst starters, and has led the team to a 4-8 record. Even if you get past the other issues with the team, the margins are always going to be slim with a QB that turns over the ball this much and isn't overly efficient. You don't want to get too comfortable with mediocre QB performance but fans also have to realize it's probably going to be more difficult going forward to unearth QB talent as long as the other two leagues are operating after the NFL season. Jake's probably good enough to keep for another season but the team should always have an eye open for his replacement as Jake looks to me like a bridge QB for this organization.

I get it, I've seen better quarterbacks. But Maier has played pretty well the last 2 weeks. They scored 35 points, with none of them being the result of a turnover. They aren't as bad as some of you make out, they have just been unlucky more often than not this year. Not that I'm saying they are a top-tier team, but they're not the second coming of the Elks either.

For the majority of the 3rd quarter they were getting blown out and for most of the game Maier was a major reason for that. At the end of the game he put big yardage stats and even made a couple of good throws so the stat sheet looked decent but watching him that whole game I don't know how anyone can think he was good. The same issues remain and will always remain with him- terrible decisions, weak arm, rarely ever able to make tight throws. That is what limits him and this offense and why the team is 4-8 on merit, despite Lewis being potentially the best returner in the league and Parades being money on FG's.

I am not sure how bad you are pretending that people are making this team out to be but they are much closer to the Esks level than they are the Bombers level.

I too think Maier is the biggest reason this club is at 4-8, but also believe he isn't a finished product just yet.

His decision making is questionable at times and he has had serious protection issues all year, but other than that its a pretty good body of work.

If he cleans up his choices and DD can find someone to play LT (Derek Dennis would look pretty good there right now), then i believe this offense is better than most.

The running game is solid and the Michel/Ambles additions have really rounded out the receiver group.

Go to Edmonton on Saturday and win that one, then i see a team other clubs will be paying attention to.

Next 6 weeks should be fun.

Well what a surprising take from you. LOL.

Exciting game. Some amazing plays on both sides. Huge comeback.

I have been as critical as the next guy about Maier and the team this year, but seriously, just try and enjoy something, ANYTHING for once. If you can't, at least let others do that and keep your negative bull#### out of here for just one game.

For the record, Maier's numbers were consistently good throughout the game and that's the best I have seen him throw all year. Because of the focus on Tre Ford (not to mention awful penalties and sacks), I think it detracted from a really solid game by him.

I was never a fan of Ambles in his first stint as a Stamp but he made some pretty big catches last night. Michel is just starting to hit his stride so if the pass protection improves this team could be more explosive and they may need more big play TD's given their red zone issues at times.

What was the official reason for the late start? Was it just a TSN decision for TV viewers? Not ideal for the local fans, unfortunately, but it was still a solid crowd.

^^ Danny Austin reported on twitter that CSEC pushed for the usual 2:00 start time but TSN got their way with a 5:00 pm start (7:00 pm eastern time). One thing I didn't consider was the fans coming from Edmonton -- with the game starting at 2:00 you could be back on the road by 6:00 and home by 9:00. Instead, you're back on the road by 9:00 and not home until midnight.

Randy Chevrier also talked about having the rematch on Friday night was better for fans versus Saturday night. Interesting to hear that coming from a player as it would be a very short week to play again on Friday, and that the move to Saturday was partly due to player safety. I guess a longsnapper doesn't get too banged up during a game (lol).

Coupled with the bad weather and lackluster records, I'd say it was a good turnout (even though the "blackout" looked like a flop). Happy the home fans were rewarded with a win and an exciting finish.

LOL

I guess this shows how some people only read what they want or just stick with the narrative they already have in their head. I already posted how great it was to beat the Esks, posted about the quality of the last drive. So maybe before rushing in to tell people how they have to be fans take minute to see what is actually posted.

You quoted what I said and then made up #### I didn’t say. So no real point in quoting something if you are just going to create whatever narrative you want anyways.

Regarding the 5:00 start, it was also mentioned on the QR pre game that it was to accomodate CBS Sportsnet, or whatever it's called. This is the last weekend before college football takes over the network and the CFL wanted more visibility down there I guess.

My response was just that, a response to your post. I didn't make up anything you didn't say (WTF are you talking about?).

I was pointing out that despite a huge comeback win and aside from one poor decision, Maier had a good game. In fact, he's had several recently. Did you think I said you were saying that? It's all so confusing.

But what isn't confusing is your constant negativity about ALL Calgary sports teams.
