That was an extremely disturbing game. I just don't know if McDaniels is head coach material. It seems he can't even call a good game on offense outside of New England.

Ha ha maybe it is all rigged. I'm trying to figure out why those Raiders players made all those dumb mistakes in the 4th quarter and why Graham called press coverage with 15 seconds left which is exactly what you don't want to do.

Maybe it's rigged, or maybe it's the classic "Bad teams find ways to lose" trope. The Raiders tied an NFL record last night with their fourth blown halftime lead of 10+ in a season. Saints too have blown a couple of 10+ point leads this year.

Well yeah the Saints and Raiders are bad teams but it is curious how similar the two choke jobs were. It's just one of those things that NFL coaches screw up such elementary things such as running out the clock or calling out the exact opposite coverage for what the situation calls for. Too many coaches overthink situations rather than defer to common sense and it nearly always leads to disaster. Teams should have a set of coaches in the booth call the plays at the end of games based on situational algorithms when holding on to a lead and take it out of the hands of the guys on the sideline that lose focus and sensibility under pressure.

Thought the Raiders had a weird gameplan from the get go. Seemed like McDaniels was content to just run the ball and grind clock from the start of the game. It's like he thought the Rams wouldn't be able to score points, so let's just run the ball and get out of here as quick as we can.
I'm obviously not an NFL coach for a reason, but I would have tried to run up the score as much as possible before the half and then run clock in the second-half of the game.

McDaniels was a complete coward last night. Even ignoring the hyper conservative game plan, he had multiple 4th and 1 pays and took the coward choice all but once. Play not to lose and what usually happens? He was definitely disrespectful to the Rams, and they made him pay in the most hilarious fashion possible.

Its a weird balance, and yeah, I'm a youth coach. But I have this simple philosophy when I play call.
For the first 3/4. I put the foot on the gas, My playbook is pretty wide open, I want to get as big of a lead as possible and leave nothing to chance. If I'm up by a bunch in the forth, I'll empty the bench, and my playbook goes to about 6 plays, 4 runs in the middle with low risk, 1 screen and 1 pass with short and mid routes.
Its boring for the guys coming off the bench but it is what it is.
During the playoffs this year, and this might be funny . . . or not.
We jumped to a 32 point lead in the first half. When I was talking to the officials at the half one of them said "You know, if you get up by 35 we go to run time and don't stop the clock". And I looked at him and said "Coming right up". On the first drive we scored. And then I pretty much ran the ball in the middle and told the QB to milk the clock.

Yeah, I'm someone who always prefers an aggressive philosophy. I've been fortunate that I cheer for a team whose owner loves aggressive, offensive football. The only exception to this is when the other team is clearly more talented than yours and you want to limit their offensive possessions. Even then, I still want my team going for it on 4th and 1 almost anytime they're in the opposing team's half.

He coached not to lose. It's been a pattern all season, hence his ownership of the record for blown double digit losses in a season. I'm not an NFL head coach either but I know enough to know that there's been no Raiders defense in the last 20 years that's been good enough to play conservatively in front of. My issue with coaching not to lose in any scenario is that you have stopped coaching to win.

And you would think a team who has blown multiple 2+ score leads this year would be a team who would know better than anyone the foolishness of sitting on a lead. But credit to Baker too, he made some very nice throws last night without any experience in the system or with the guys he was playing with. The Rams do need a long term solution at QB with Stafford nearing the end, be interesting to see what they do with him at the end of the year.

The NFL has fined the New Orleans Saints, several of the team's coaches and defensive end Cameron Jordan more than half a million dollars for faking an injury during the team's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.
The Saints were fined $350,000, head coach Dennis Allen $100,000, co-defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen $50,000 and Jordan $50,000 for their roles in the fourth-quarter delay. All parties plan to appeal their fines, the sources added.
