He ended up with points in 17 of his last 19 games, around 25 points in that time
The hit that led to his 1 game suspension was dumb, and so was his weird headlock attempt during play. If I'm a Florida fan I'm happy with his production and I'll take a few dumb penalties if that's the trade off

Yeah, I'm sure excelling in a bigger role and a huge boost in production is a lot easier to swallow if you look at a couple bad penalties and desperately try to convince yourself it's "Classic Sam Bennett!"

He took 3 penalties in the series, not counting an offsetting roughing penalty, and Tampa scored on all 3 of them.

I liked Bennett but I'm still happy with the trade, I think it's pretty much exactly what he's worth. Also I'd rather take a couple seconds than lose him to Seattle for nothing
I don't know why it's so inconceivable to some of you that some fans still cheer for players when they move on to other teams

Go visit that Lightning/Panthers series thread. You can substitute McDavid for Bennett in some of those posts and it sounds like Stang in an E=NG thread. The excuses were sickening.

haha. It was serious business for some folks in there! Cheering is one thing. Oiler-level Conman McBennett loving is a whole new level. But i guess if you can't see the difference... I mean we are talking about 20 games here right?
I'm pretty sure I've been taking a break from the NHL for a very long time now...

New, amazing, used-correctly Bennett was also driving the Panthers fanbase mad.
No matter what I think he's the kind of player you come away from with mixed feelings.
The more prominent the role, the greater the offense but also the mental gaffes.

Sam Bennett was misused, and his development was mishandled in Calgary.
Sam Bennett also didn't really play his best in Calgary, and was legitimately a bad player at times here during the last two seasons.
Sam Bennett had a great start with better linemates in Florida, taking advantage of an opportunity he was never really provided in Calgary.
Sam Bennett is also never likely to be a PPG top 6 center long term even though that's what he did for 20 games in Florida, a lot of that was on ice shooting percentage.
Sam Bennett has always had discipline issues, and has a penchant for taking bad offensive zone penalties. The game 1 penalty and subsequent suspension really put the Panthers in an unsurmountable hole down 2-0 in the series.
All of these things can be true, and are true about Sam Bennett. No need to argue about it because these are all true statements.
