What could their union possibly do to them if they stayed the additional time to complete the procedure? Unless it’s a case where the nurse has already worked 12 hours and by law has to leave, I don’t think the nurses can refuse work they are being directed to continue doing.

Not even the UCP can maintain the fiction that they'll roll back the deficit without raising taxes or cutting public health care spending.

Expect a revived push for privatized health care if Kenney wins.

Which would be a welcome change. We are all aware our very expensive healthcare system delivers results far below most other developed nations and the defining characteristic is the lack of private involvement.

We could spend less and deliver better outcomes by following the privatized options within public systems such as offered in Australia, England, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Germany, etc., etc., etc.

I am hopeful that people are beginning to recognize that the only extreme position is the one posited by the NDP and Public Sector Unions who believe North Korean style healthcare is the only option.

I just got this really weird text message. Has anyone else gotten the same message?
“Hi, I'm Ryan from Alberta's NDP Caucus. Rachel Notley and her caucus are fighting for Alberta's pipeline jobs. Do you support their work on the pipeline?”

It’s almost as if you’re under the impression that we don’t have any private healthcare options.

The North Korean style healthcare comment was a nice touch, shows you’re really basing your posts on reality. Careful with the fear mongering or dion’s going to start accusing you of working for the NDP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't exactly go to a private clinic in this country/province for relatively invasive procedures like brain surgery, correct? We all have to use the public system for procedures like that.

Unless every service in the public health system has a private sector equivalent, then you will always have people clogging the public system. Someone who can afford private health care may also not be in dire need of a procedure and will be fine waiting for a spot in the public system too.

I am concerned about Jason Kenney's comparison between how many procedures the private sector can output vs. the public sector in a given day. Also, his assessment of what nurses do between procedures is atrocious and wrong.

It must mean that crazy_eoj has been to North Korea and experienced their healthcare system firsthand. Otherwise I’d question how he/she could make the comparison to a healthcare system in a country that isn’t exactly the most forthcoming about how they operate internally.

It means by reading their press releases and positions they continually attack and demonize any private involvement in health care. Totally ignoring the facts that some of our care is already delivered privately, and furthermore the best systems in the world incorporate more private delivery and involvement than Canada.

The only system I can think of with no private involvement, such as suggested by the NDP, is North Korea. Can you think of any others?

Remember when dealing with Heath Care we are the Third worst

https://interactives.commonwealthfun...mirror-mirror/

Sacred cows are not useful in fixing this problem. We don’t even do things like fund free birth control for our population.

High costs and mediocre results but you can't even discuss making any changes without hysteria and accusations of "US style healthcare". It's been a tried and true election boogeyman for a long time.

I think we should look at ways to reform our public health care system, including incorporating more private elements, provided they don't take resources away from the public system. I just don't trust Kenney and the UCP to do it.

The reaction to Kenney's rural immigration program has been hilarious and predictable from his base. Outrage and racism all over FB, they had to delete the video lol

The NDP had an opportunity to make changes to health care, and instead have doubled or tripled down on the status quo. We're paying more than ever with waiting lists increasing substantially. Not only that but with their alliance with public sector unions it's sad to see them constantly attacking any mention of private elements at all.

So basically there is only one rational choice on the heath-care file if you actually care about patient outcomes.

This....does not seem good: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...tion-1.5034732

Will see if this has legs...

That's not good. Puts the UCP in a bad light if proven to be true. Would make them look like hypocrites for all the complants they've filed.
