'We're Not Going Away': Alt-Right Leader On Voice In Trump Administration

http://www.npr.org/2016/11/17/502476...m_content=2045

The alt-right used to exist mostly on the Internet, but with the rise of Donald Trump and his chief strategist, Steve Bannon, the movement is starting to hold conferences where hundreds of people attend. Spencer and others in the alt-right movement were suspended from Twitter this week. But now that Trump has been elected, Spencer says he believes the alt-right will continue to grow.

MCEVERS: Just a warning here. There are words and phrases and ideas in the next seven minutes that many people will find offensive, even hateful. But because this group has influence, we think you should hear what the alt-right is and what it wants from a Trump administration.

SPENCER: What I would ultimately want is this ideal of a safe space effectively for Europeans.

Kanye West delivered a 40 minute pro-trump speech last night. I don't even know what's real life anymore.

^^Well it's not really clear on what impact Trump had on Ford's decision, Ford would not admit that anyway as it would cause their stock to crash. That being said this is not good for Canada, we are still a low cost manufacturer compared to the US. It may be best to drop Mexico and go back to the original bilateral agreement negotiated by Mulrooney and Reagan.

He's pissed someone has out attention whored him and his wife. So now he's trying to get back in the spotlight. It's been pretty steeply downhill from Kanye since marrying Kim.

Southern Ontario is the most expensive place to build a car in the world.

He took credit for saving a Lincoln plant. While not exactly the correct terminology, Ford has now reversed plans to move Lincoln MKC production to Mexico in a few years. If he had said Lincoln line, or Lincoln production, Trump would be mostly correct.

Not when you factor in the low CAD$, and with the interest rate going up in the US that will only go lower.

Trump University has a 98% approval rating. I could have settled but won't out of principle!
Quote:
“I don’t settle lawsuits,” Trump later explained to an Arkansas crowd after his primary opponents began using Trump University as evidence that the real estate developer and reality television star was simply a con man. “Probably should have settled it, but I just can’t do that. Mentally I can’t do it. I’d rather spend a lot more money and fight it.”

He got the “spend a lot of money” part right, anyway.

Through his lawyers, Trump has negotiated a deal that will cost him $25 million to settle three separate lawsuits against Trump University, according to a statement released by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on Friday. The victims—some 6,000 people in New York, California, and Florida—will each receive restitution while up to $1 million will be paid to New York state as a penalty for violating education laws, according to Schneiderman’s statement. Requests for comment from Trump, his children, and his lawyer, were not returned.

$25 M divided among 6,000 people is not very much, after legal costs/contingency fees?

Maybe works out to about a refund of their tuition?

Trump avoids being deposed and saying something that would have gotten him deposed. (badumtsss).

I'm surprised the Plaintiffs caved. Their own lawyers waived their fees to help achieve the settlement. That can be seen to be either generous or chicken, and I'm not sure which.

$25,000,000 into 6000 plaintiffs is just over 4K per, where the news reports suggested many paid much more than that, up to 35K tuition.

Obama will become known as one of the greatest presidents I think, even if his promise was much greater than his deliver. He can only do so much.

He very well could be. I personally think its too early to say. However, I do think he is way too "smart" for this job. He could have made so much more money and have so much less stress if he stayed in private life. Not bad for a community organizer.

Ultimately, he is a decent human being and I think that would be his lasting legacy.

Ultimately, presidents aren't assessed by what great people they were. Jimmy Carter is a great person, and he's regarded as a dud as a president. They're assessed by what tangible measures they accomplished and whether voters remember their term as a happy time. Obama, largely due to a dysfunctional Washington, didn't accomplish much. As for whether his term will be regarded as a happy time, it was pretty miserable for the large swathes of the country that never recovered from the 2008 financial meltdown.

I doubt anything would come of this, but obviously if we got hearings on this it would be fascinating

If you’re trying to call the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, you might find yourself on hold for . . . the afternoon.

The committee’s phones became jammed most of Friday after a Facebook post calling for an investigation into President-elect Donald Trump’s finances started to go viral. The message urged readers to call the panel to “support the call for a bipartisan review of Trump’s financials and apparent conflicts of interest” after Trump’s daughter and son-in-law joined his private meeting Thursday night at Trump Tower with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“This is a state meeting and they had no security clearance . . . and she is supposed to be running his businesses during his presidential term,” the post states, referring to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. “Can you spell yyyuuuge conflict of interest?”

Ultimately I don't know if he will be viewed all that well historically either, but being buttressed by George W and Donald Trump might make his term look better.
