They are close to me too but I'll probably save time not being tempted to see if they have it then going somewhere else when they don't.

Another Toys R Us had a grand opening in what looks to be the old Bed Bath and Beyond space in the deep south in Legacy.

The owner of Toys R Us also seems to have opened a replacement for Bed Bath and Beyond type stores in various parts of town called "Rooms + Spaces" (one at Brentwood adjacent to TRU) because they are doing cross-promotions like coupons.

I'm just shocked one company is actually opening new retail like this.

Hooch & Co - Calgary's Dog Bar
Opening Spring 2024
1409 9 Ave SE

"Calgary's first dog bar located in the heart of Inglewood on Calgary's Music Mile."

Quote:
Heading for an evening out can be tricky when you have four-legged friends to consider, but a new bar is coming to Calgary next spring that’s going to change that.

Hooch & Co is a brand-new concept coming to Calgary, and rather than simply being dog-friendly, it’s going to be a “dog-first” bar specifically designed with pups in mind.

The bar is coming to Calgary’s Inglewood neighbourhood, and it’s aimed at being a space for both humans and dogs alike to socialize and enjoy themselves.

The bar will be a fully licensed dog park with over 3,000 square feet of indoor play space and another 6,000 square feet outside so dogs can socialize, play, and enjoy themselves."

I guess this leans into it even more, but I find Cold Garden to already be the "dog bar" in Inglewood. Every time I've been there, it's been packed with dogs. Probably one of the reasons I prefer Ol' Beautiful next door.

I wonder how they even managed to get liability insurance for that type of thing. Sounds like it would be a complete nightmare. I see they have all these "rules" but if there is one universal truth, it's that many dog owners rarely give a #### about rules. Add a few drinks to the mix? Ya...

Did they eff up and give 40% off everything like they did in Brentwood? lol

But yeah what are they thinking? they should start renting DVDs and VHS there too

Maybe this is a good thing. Concentrate all the terrible dogs and their awful owners all in one place so we don't have to deal with them everywhere else. Is Sliver secretly behind this?

No, no it's not. They're dogs. You just leave them at home.

Mastermind Toys in Credit protection. Weird that it happened right before their busiest time of the year.

Certain underperforming stores to be closed.

What can I say, that one corporate retreat I went to 15 years ago really spoke to me.

I'm probably definitely just an immature idiot, but "lean in" always made me think of this

Well it appears that soon people can take their dogs out to the bar. I won’t, because my dog can’t control her whiskey.. I think it’s a fun idea, it’s not like if you don’t like dogs, you have to go or anything, so who cares?

Mastermind Toys filed for chapter 11 today. Don't know how long they'll be around.

https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/mastermi...ores-1.2002990

Interesting tidbit regarding a potential buyer for the company:

Quote:
"A bidder was found but the deal was subject to "a lengthy review process with the Competition Bureau, which involved both Mastermind LP and the proposed purchaser responding to extensive information requests and making numerous submissions," court documents say."
Pure speculation, I wonder if it was Toys R Us' parent?

Had to have been. Literally anyone else who could conceivably have wanted it would have been able to buy it without issue from the competition bureau.

Mastermind kinda pissed me off one time, our daughter got 3 of the exact same book for her birthday one year with gift receipts, two from mastermind, one from Chapters.

like 10 days after her birthday party, went to exchange the book for any other in the series, Chapters didn't have a care in the world. Mastermind 'Both these gift receipts are more than 4 weeks old, can't help you'. - "We just want to trade it for a book from the same author, with the same price" - 'Can't help you'.

Haven't shopped their through 8 more years of raising young children, because it was just far too far below the minimum standard of customer service I would want to see out of a retail store.
