So if there's a boil water advisory, wouldn't that just mean you need to boil the water?
Which is okay, provided you have means of boiling it. I just filled a couple of big containers though with filtered water, just in case there is an advisory.
Hotels have rack rates which by law have to be posted in the rooms.
If you look, they are almost always 2 or 3 times higher then what you paid. But whatever reason for them, it then allows them to charge up to that rate during times like this or Stampede etc. So some faux outrage around bumping the price up 80$ is just internet drama.
That said, 20$ for ice bags is pure scum.
Unless I'm missing something, why are people needing ice? Power is out and drinks are too warm?!?

Of course, but there are people who drink bottled water without there being a warning so I can see why there's people stock piling water. Personally I love tap water, but paying 20 cents for a bottle beats boiling tap water.
Kind of a side note to the flooding; but i refuse to by bottled water after watching a documentary about bottled water on Netflix. It was pretty eye opening when you see the impact bottled water has on our environment.
So if there's a boil water advisory, wouldn't that just mean you need to boil the water?
Not if the power is out too and you have no way of boiling it. I think people are just scared want to be prepared, which is a good thing in my opinion.
Nenshi said the Stampede will go on!! (seen on Global ticker). Good decision...get the cleanup rolling, keep our chins up, and get a few beers for a helluva party.

In any case-jeez! I feel for you guys. You are always so supportive of other folks in disaster prone areas. I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know how you are doing individually. Just wish you all the best.

Town of Canmore
Lots of rumours about the river, dams, and dykes. Here is the reality. The river forecaster says the Bow River has crested in Banff. It will crest in Canmore in 2-4 hours. GOOD NEWS! The river will rise for this time, but the dyke, dams, and bridge can handle this. THERE IS BLUE SKY RIGHT NOW!! This is also good news. Water in downtown and Cougar Creek is receeding quickly. We will get some rain showers over the next few days, but the heavy rain should be over. Groundwater will rise, even after river has cresteed (it takes a while to catch up) so people will still have water in basements and driveways, but things are looking up, Canmore!
