I don't think the scouts factor that into their rankings. They want the best player not the one ready the fastest. They aren't going to pass up a player they think will be better in 5 years just to take one that is more physically mature now. That said obviously top 5-10 picks are going to be ready sooner than later picks in most cases. I would expect our highest first rounder to make an impact far quicker than Backlund or Brodie has. So I don't think NHL readiness is much of a concern or a factor for us. They'll take the best player available regardless of whether he's ready now or in a year or two.
This organization can't really afford to take an inferior player who can play right away. We need to do what is best long term not short term.

Disagree.
Scouts who recommend a more NHL ready player know that he is more likely to at least play in the NHL for some time, and less likely to never make it. It's self preservation, not necessarily what's best for the organization. It's why GMs go away from their scouts opinions on occasion. Probably the case with Sven a couple years ago.

I hate when they split the NA and Euro lists like that.

They have the London guys way lower than any other ranking. Horvat is 10 on the ISS rankings, he's 15 in North America here. Zaradov is 7 at ISS, and 22 in North America here.
Kinda wacky.

Ya, those 3 picks could be Golden... I'd rather they NOT try to trade up of it means less Pi is in the 1st round.
Do they have any 2nd rounders currently? There'll be some good players in that round as well... Hopefully the Flames can get one in the first half of the 2nd round.

A silly practice indeed... There's no value in it... Their thinking must be that they are relying on different scouts so they can't compare the rankings.

If only we kept Bourque and our 2nd rounder instead of dealing for Cammy. We'd be drafting top 4 for sure and we'd have our 2nd rounder!
Anyways, I am torn between Monahan, Nischuskin and Nurse. I've only seen highlights, but if the russian says he undoubtfully wants to come over, I don't think you can pass on him!

Next year looks pretty good as well (touch below this one thou IMO) with Reinhart, Ekblad and Will Nylander (Fun fact: Son of Nylander was born in Calgary). With McDavid headlining 2015 I can't see it being anything but amazing (well... as amazing as you project a draft based on Bantam play anyways).
If you have to rebuild then this is as good a stretch of drafts as you can hope for.

Agreed! I'd rather have Bourque and the 2nd rounder right now... The only factor that will save that deal is if Ramo turns out to be amazing.

The great thing about Nichushkin is that if he does want to come over he'll go earlier than 7th which will drop Monohan/Lindholm in our lap, and if he's not taken then you have choice.

The draft also never goes exactly according to the CSB list. On or two teams could have different guys in their top 5 or 10 etc letting on or two guys "drop".

Too bad NJ didn't give up this years1st round pick, as our late round picks would have been one higher...

With the 7th overall pick, for sure one of Monahan, Lindholm or Nurse will be available... With 2 of them being so if Nichuskin is picked Top 6... This is gonna be an exciting draft for Flames' fans

It'll be very interesting to see how the two draft lists intermingle. From what I see in the mock drafts the top 8 euroepeans look to be selected in the first round with 4 of them sniffing at the top 10.
Personally, I would like to pick a C with our first pick, RW with our second and D with our third. Ideally Mantha would drop to the Blues pick. However if we reverse the second and third picks and acquire a solid D prospect and then a RW I would be happy with that.
There are some interesting big bodies that can be had in both positions around where we are drafting. Morin would be an interesting D pick. McCarron for a big 6'5" RW with the Pens pick? Both/either pick would help bring more size into our prospect pool.

For those very familiar with jr age players... Where would Yakupov be picked if he were in this years draft (not taking into account his NHL season, just based on where he was at the time)?
What about RNH? ... Taylor Hall?

Flames 1st Round Pick (Penguins Pick)
Looks to be some nice Centres ranked where the 1st rounder we got from the Pens will likely land - working off this list: http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/feature/?id=49649
Petan has some outrageous numbers - what do we think of him?
24. Ryan Hartman
25. Ryan Pulock
26. Laurent Dauphin
27. Nicolas Petan
28. Curtis Lazar
29. JT Compher

Yakupov - Around 5/6 in with the Lindholms/Monahans. I would probably pluck him 7th.
RNH: Top 3 - probably right in the third slot
Hall: Top 3 as well I think. Right around Drouin/Barkov.
My take anyways.
