I don't know who Fred is. Is there anything in that post that is not true (except for the "vast majority" of fans opening night being Hawks fans)?
One thing: the idea that Sacramento could host an NHL team as suggested in the last paragraph is laughable...
As much as I'd love to have an NHL team in town, it would NEVER happen because it could NEVER work and the Sharks would fight the move with everything they have.
Any time I see this, I know that I'm reading a lazy writer that is quick to make assumptions about subjects he knows little about.
The Following User Says Thank You to landshark For This Useful Post:
New Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said he has his doubts about whether Jamison actually will be able to pull it off by Thursday.
"For the life of me, I can't figure why, if everything is lined up, if he's got the money in hand, why would he postpone this? That's the only thing I haven't been able to figure out," Weiers said. "What would be the purpose of delaying it?"
The mayor said he asked Jamison that very question last week. Weiers said Jamison responded that he was optimistic about completing the sale but offered no details.
Neither Jamison nor league officials offered any explanations about the seemingly slow negotiations when asked by The Arizona Republic last week.
Jamison said, "We're aware of what we have to do to get this closed. We're working very hard to get there. So far, the anticipation is that we will get there. That's kind of where we're at, at the moment, and I probably wouldn't take it much further than that."
Weiers, a council newcomer, said he made that point clear to Jamison during their discussion.
"I told Jamison that as opposed as I was to the deal -- I thought that the city didn't get a very good deal out of it -- the fact is that the council made that decision. The deal that was made said that he has until the 31st to put it together. I'll honor that, but I also told him that I wouldn't honor it one second past that," Weiers said.
Even if it's until and including the 31st, I have a hard time convincing myself one can get a deal of this magnitude done by then, given the lack of progress we keep hearing about.
Will Bettman ever admit defeat that PHX in Glendale does not work. Nothing will change in the NHL's eyes until the majority of the owners tell Bettman we are sick of this.
They will have to make it clear to Bettman, Move the team.
It appears with a new mayor in Glendale and 4 new council members that probably they will no longer continue that sweet $ deal to Bettman.
