Yeah, I suppose. I was just surprised because I went into it to see if there was anything new going on with Plan B, read a bunch of traffic and parasite community posts, went out of the thread assuming I had been in the gear grinder thread and was quite surprised to see I was in the FOI forum.
I suppose if we'd made it to round 2 none of this would be happening. I blame Elliot.

You should stay away from the Jankowski thread.

Actually the better way to put it is CalgaryNEXT is the unwanted child, and Plan B is the arena to abort it.

honest question, didn't the province help with Edmonton's funding?
If so, you'd think we should be able to lock down at least that similar portion from Alberta. I mean ####, they've already engaged turbo thrusters towards an eternity of debt so may as well lump this on too...

I believe the City of Edmonton used MSI money, which is technically provincial money, but controlled by the city.

Yes, but they did not receive any additional money relative to Calgary for the purposes of constructing an arena.

I was just looking at the proposed new arena in Victoria Park and looking at the new arena in Edmonton. The new arena in Edmonton is surrounded by the Ice District(which looks beautifully-see the video below) and the new arena in Calgary will be in the middle of nowhere. If we build a new arena, would it not be better to build stuff around it, like the Ice District. Can someone please fill me in on this because I don't get this.

can't really compare the two. the needs of the cities are different.
leaving aside any jokes, Edmonton's downtown was a total wasteland
nothing to do and no reason to go there.
The arena provided the catalyst to spur development in the downtown area that was needed more than Calgary would ever need.

You should've seen the Ice District before they brought in all the ice.

HOLY CRAP! Why hasn't anyone else thought of that?
Until you mentioned it, I thought the most logical plan was to just keep the area around the arena as empty lots for eternity. Now, I've seen the light and think they should probably build other stuff around the arena too.
You should write a letter to the Mayor suggesting that they build other stuff around the new arena.

My face is a bum!

Just look at Verizon in Washington.
It's a building, on a block full of buildings, with actual people walking around to actual businesses.
I much prefer this to a master-planned plaza that sits empty most nights.

To suggest they won't build anything around the arena is silly to say the least. If it gets built in Victoria Park it sounds like CMLC already has some preliminary plans to turn some of the surrounding land into an entertainment district.
