A reminder for those people who don't regularly check the Prospects forum: TSN2 will be showing today's Providence vs. Boston University game starting at 4pm MT (6pm ET).
Providence is currently ranked 1st in the nation with a 6-0-1 record. BU is 11th with a 5-3-0 record.
There should be three Flames draft picks playing in the game: Jankowski and Gilmour for Providence and Hickey for BU.

think this may be worth putting on the main page thread:
Mark Jankowski Named Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week
http://www.friars.com/sports/m-hocke...112315aaa.html
Quote:
It was announced by the Hockey East on Monday (Nov. 23) that Providence College men’s hockey’s Mark Jankowski was named Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week after a four-point performance for the top-ranked Friars’ weekend sweep of Northeastern.
Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario) netted two power play goals on Friday night, including the game-winner, and followed up that performance with the game-winning strike and an assist in Saturday night’s 3-0 win at Matthews Arena. He now has notched 10 game-winning goals in his career.
For the season, Jankowski ranks second on the Friars in scoring with 15 points (7-8-15) and sits in a six-way tie for the national lead in power play goals (5). He becomes the fourth Friar to be named Hockey East Player of the Week this season, joining teammates Trevor Mingoia (Oct. 12), Jake Walman (Nov. 2), and Nick Ellis (Nov. 16).

I hope he ends up being a killer 3rd line centre or a great 2nd line winger!!! ☺

these charts attempt to track Jankowski's progress offensively in context with the two closest comparables to his situation: Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes. I have also included Riley Sheahan who had low offensive numbers in the NCAA.
I feel they are comparables because: - 3 were drafted out of high school late 1st round, Sheahan was drafted late 1st round after 1 year in the NCAA, he previously played Junior B in Ontario
- all 4 are big bodied forwards (or at least tall)
- all 4 went on to play in Hockey East (Sheahan went to Notre Dame in 2009, Notre Dame joined Hockey East in 2011)
Notable differences are: - Jankowski was drafted out of Canadian high school while Hayes and Kreider came from US high schools
- Kreider and Hayes play for a better offensive team in BC, while Jankowski plays for a more defensive team
- Kreider played LW for all his time in BC
- Hayes played C for the majority of his first 2 years, then switched to primarily RW for his last 2 years
- Jankowski started LW then moved to center in his 2nd year
- while Gaudreau was at BC for Kreider's final NCAA season, they rarely played on the same line
- while Gaudreau was at BC for Hayes' final 3 NCAA seasons, they rarely played on the same line until Hayes' final season
This doesn't necessarily prove anything. Doesn't mean Jankowski is better or worse than those 3 guys. Just puts into context what Jankowski's offence is relative to the three other guys.

I was just thinking about those graphs. Not to shabby considering he doesn't have Gaudreau on his wing.

I'm still excited to see Janko on the Flames. Am I the only one that's a smidge worried he won't sign with the Flames? Not sure how realistic my fear is though, as I haven't followed him that closely. But since he'll be finishing his 4th year in college, he's free to sign with anyone after mid August right?

Things are looking great for Janko.
I'm still so very sad we didn't get Hayes. Gotta think he'd be still a force on Johnny's other side.

It's starting to be pretty safe to say that Jankowski has taken that big leap forward in production people were hoping for.

Yeah, Weisbrod said it would take 3 or 4 years before he could start contributing to the Flames. It's taking longer but it looks like he may get there.

Yup. A big center that can play defense and put up some points has a pretty good change to at least earn a look.
The best thing though is that the neverending draft debate seems to have died for a while

Worry about this too. The flames look pretty deep at the centre ice position and we've seen college players not sign because they want a better chance to make the team. I know the flames took a chance on him when they drafted him and he knows that so I hope he shows loyalty to the organization.
Only problem is none of the people responsible for drafting him are with the flames any more. Makes me nervous that Weisbrod is with the Canucks. I could just imagine the case he would pitch to janko... Claiming one of reasons the flames fired him and feaster was because of drafting him... How he was the one that took a chance on him. Plus the Canucks have very little prospect depth at centre so he'll have a better shot at making the team.
This is all speculation of course. I'm sure it's much more likely for him to stick with the team that drafted him. Just a little nervous about it.

Lots of people were worried that Gaudreau wouldn't sign also. Until the time comes I'm not worried about it.

You could easily counter that with, "how would you like to play with Johnny Gaudreau?'

iirc Jankowski has mentioned on a couple occasions that he wanted to sign with the Flames last spring with Jon Gillies after they won the Frozen Four. It was the Flames who wanted him to spent his final year in College. Doubt it has/will go south between the two.
Treliving was in attendance November 13th when The Friars tied BU, safe to say they're in communication.

Check out Jankowski's Back Burner thread... I think you'll find a few candidates for people who aren't looking forward to eating a lot of crow.
