Another oilers home game against a bottom feeder. Tough schedule for these pretenders.

Agreed, a past-due caps team and a bottom feeder sabres team. Easy schedule continues. Flames would be in a different position if they had the cheat code schedule too.

So here's what their schedule has looked like over the last couple of weeks:
@Jackets
@Sabres
@Penguins
Caps
Avs
Habs
Sabres
So that's 5 games against bottom feeders, one against a declining Caps team who is on the outside looking in, and one game against a legit Cup contender, which of course they lost. Paper tigers indeed. These losers are definitely getting bounced in round 1. Maybe round 2 if they get favourable reffing in their opening series. But they won't get anywhere near the Cup, thank god.

I think they condensed a run of tough games into the last couple weeks. Could be perfect as it should break their confidence going into playoffs after the easy sailing for weeks.

Draisaitl is going to the bank on his next contract. They figure he can write a number down and get it.
Dreger also figures the Oilers can't afford to pay him that. The chances of him signing in Edmonton are uh... "not going to happen that quickly".
If Draisaitl leaves you know McDavid is guaranteed to leave too. Word out there is that McDavid is already got his eye elsewhere anyway and I would suggest that Draisaitl likely knows that. Why would he stick around in Edmonton?

Draisaitl has made a living somewhat riding off the coattails of McDavid. Don’t get me wrong he’s a good player, but I doubt he’s scoring over 100 points without 97 and their constant 85-90% PP time p/2 mins.
If I were to bet, I think Chicago is going to back up the trucks to grab him to play with Bedard. They can easily afford a 15m x 7 deal with him. And they won’t be the only ones willing to give him 100m or more over 7 years.

When the Oilers are selling at the deadline next year, they can trade Draisaitl as a rental to the Blackhawks for a 1st and a 3rd. Then Chicago can give him 8 years.

Trade? Lol. They'll keep the band together for another run under the naivety that Leon loves Edmonton and would never actually leave. Until he does, and they get nothing but cap space out of it.
You can't write a blank cheque with the constraints those derps have walked themselves into. And if they could manage that pay-raise, how does that affect flexibility for a subsequent McDavid extension and the cap structure of the roster? Every hole would have to be filled with a league minimum player lol.
At best, they can feasibly keep one. But I don't think either guy would have interest in being there without the other. So they're likely as good as gone.
McDavid already signed his youth away to those losers. He's earned redemption elsewhere.

One likely scenario is that he doesn't want to sign but also doesn't want to be traded. He will want to see what's up with McDavid the following year and perhaps get more negotiating power that way.
The funny thing is that he could absolutely Hanifin this situation. Actually, even easier than Noah, he could submit a 10 team trade list of non playoff teams and let them all know that he has no intention of signing an extension with them. Tell the Oilers he'll re-visit negotiations in the summer and take one more flaccid stab at this thing.

Lol flaccid stab.
It will be a really complicated situation and i can absolutely see Leon muddlying the waters for a potential trade while also making no promises about re-signing there.
No matter what this probably ends badly for the Oilers and Kenny and the old boys probably don't have the patience, skill and mutual respect with the players to pull off a miracle where both stay and they can ice an effective 23 man roster with the long term anchors on the payroll.

Are the Oiler fans fighting each other? For why tho? The guy in the Habs jersey is just standing back laughing at them.

This is probably their best year to win it all and their GM went out and added Henrique, Carrick and Stecher lol.
Next year is essentially a flat cap year for them because of Brown / Perry bonuses.
The year after they have Draisaitl and Bouchard looking for new contracts. Assume Draisaitl gets around 13 mil, that is a 4.5 mil increase. Bouchard is at 3.9 mil and will likely want around 10, so about a 6 mil increase. Those two alone is more than the cap will go up. Assume they keep them and surround them with garbage, then McDavid and Skinner need a new contract.
Unless they pay somebody to take Campbell and Kane it will tough to put together any depth at all.

Their deadline will be considerably more difficult to manage as if they are in a playoff spot at the deadline and trade him they can kiss any chances of playoff success goodbye and if they keep him then it's basically their version of Gaudreau where they lose him for nothing. If they trade him then that opens up room to make a massive offer to McDavid but why would he stay there especially when he couldn't win in Edmonton with Draisaitl? It's all diminishing returns for the Oilers going forward as Hyman, RNH, Kane, Ekholm are all into their 30's hitting the twilights of their careers and the cupboards are bare. The Oilers situation is actually pretty dire and the best thing they could do is to trade Draisaitl at the draft for draft capital and a top prospect.

They're going to either have to start shedding dead money contracts which will cost high picks, or useful secondary players that still have any positive value.
This is the best the team will be for a very long time.
Don't #### up!

I feel like this isn't the first video of Oilers fans fighting each other. What a bunch.
The Smyth guy clearly knows what he's doing a bit; handled those McDavids rushing him quite well. A couple well timed hooks and a nice knee in the clinch.
