Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told Republicans on Wednesday that he is opposed to an independent commission investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection as envisioned by the House.
McConnell had signaled on Tuesday that he was undecided but came down more firmly after another day of deliberations, according to a person with direct knowledge of his remarks. The Kentucky Republican’s stance casts serious doubt on the future of legislation creating a bipartisan commission on the Capitol riot — a bill set to pass the House later Wednesday -- if major changes aren’t made.

Publicly and privately, Republicans are making that case, with Senate GOP Whip John Thune noting that there's concern among some GOP members that the findings of the probe "could be weaponized politically and drug into next year."
"I want our midterm message to be on the kinds of things that the American people are dealing with: That's jobs and wages and the economy and national security, safe streets and strong borders -- not relitigating the 2020 elections," Thune told CNN. "A lot of our members, and I think this is true of a lot of House Republicans, want to be moving forward and not looking backward. Anything that gets us rehashing the 2020 elections I think is a day lost on being able to draw a contrast between us the Democrats' very radical left-wing agenda."
Thune's comments came moments after Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell announced his opposition on the floor, contending it would duplicate ongoing probes and contending the deal -- which was reached between a House Republican and House Democrat -- is designed to find a conclusion that would be in "Democrats' hands."

HA
As they "recount" Arizona.
This would be funny, if it wasn't so sad

Let's be honest, neither party is living in reality. It's just that the Democrats are living in the corporate donor reality and Republicans are off in the bat#### insane realm.

One of the worst tendencies of politicians is the blending of issues. In Tim Ryan's rant, he was right about everything that he said, but adding in climate change when he knew that this was a contentious subject to some Republicans is just unnecessary politicking.
He guaranteed a gut negative reaction from a subsection of his audience that ensured division. Perhaps this was by design.
Also, that is one empty room. Most legislative assemblies in America (and Canada) have such poor attendance. It's embarrassing.

The context of the second sentence makes the first sentence practically meaningless in a good faith conversation.

Both sides, many sides...

Do you think the democrats are providing good governance?
They are failing at getting public buy in to vaccine which is going to cause long term consequences to the US.
They haven’t made any meaningful change through Congress.
They are completely ineffective. It isn’t both sides many sides. It’s the current government is not effective. The collective “We” asked people like Rube to shut up and vote out Trump because he was acutely dangerous. Now Rube needs to be loud about how ineffective the Biden government is. To dismiss Biden’s faults because he isn’t bat#### crazy is not a reasonable argument.

To bring up Biden on a post about the GOP being cool with the insurrection isn’t a reasonable argument…

Corporate donations are actually IN reality though.
How does this even make sense in your brain when you type it?

Correct me if I am wrong, but is the US infection rates not plummeting dramatically? Hasn't like half the population been vaccinated?
What exactly are you expecting the Democrats to do here? Forcefully inject people?

That can be attributed largely to both vaccination and the fact that the virus is simply running out of new hosts to infect... so many people have already gotten the damn thing that they've got some form of immunity to it, which helps infection / transmission rates too.

Right, so where's the failing of Biden and the Democrats here?

The post was about insurrection? I thought the post was about a Democrat saying we need two parties that live in reality. I agree. However, the realities that both parties currently occupy are not the same as those faced by the average American. The GOP are objectively worse by a lot, but the Democrats only look good because of how objectively awful the GOP are.
EDIT: I will agree that my original post was very clumsily worded.

I think the emphasis should be on the second paragraph, not the first.
