Fed will be in tough as he has to play either Delpo or Theim now both players would have to be considered favorites for now.

Fognini sent packing from the US Open for abuse of a female chair umpire (used some pretty vulgar language apparently). That's a tough pill for his doubles partner to swallow as the abuse occurred during Fognini's first round singles match.

Radwanska wins the 2nd set.
Already a long day at Ashe, it's 4:00 and still Nadal, Federer and Keys to come.

Darn it, I was hoping for another racket toss, but all we got was a slamming of a tennis ball by CoCo.

I know I shouldn't be surprised any longer, but the constant rooting for CoCo from the commentary box is pretty appalling.

the TSN1 commentary is better. ESPN are cheerleading hacks.

Both matches on Ashe go 3 lomg sets there is no such thing as momentum in Women's tennis. Don't watch much of the women's game but seems like serve doesn't even matter there are a lot more breaks.

it's just whoever wins 4 points first in a game and 6 games first in a set, the serve absolutely doesn't matter. This is why Serena beats everyone, she's the only one with a serve.

I've tried to hate Coco but for some reason I just can't. usually the combination of attitude plus overly enthusiastic/patriotic commentary is enough, but just not in this case. maybe I should see a doctor about it.

I guess for me, if she had the results to back up the cockiness, it wouldn't be so bad, but to be that brash and arrogant (and quite frankly disrespectful) when you haven't really done all that much to date is tough to take.

Mayer wins the 1st set.
At this rate, Keys will start after midnight.

Someone on Reddit, who speaks Italian, was calling for Fognini to be banned right after that match. Apparently he repeatedly called the umpire a "c-sucking whore" in Italian.

Okay, so Mayer just got a time violation warning, let's see if the chair umpire has the cajones to give the same warning to Rafa.

And, of course, the time violation comes a deuce when Nadal desperately needs a break and a boost.

Been doing a tiny bit of digging. Apparently it's been quite a surge (resurgence?) of a year for Leonardo Mayer. If you look at his earlier YTD standings, he was all the way down in the 150's in singles rank at one point and stuck at rank #138 going into the Hamburg Open near the end of July.
He wound up winning that ATP 500 event as a lucky loser (Leo actually lost in 2nd round qualifying to a 16 yr old German wildcard named Rudolf Molleker) over another Mayer, Florian Mayer, that is, which has basically brought him up to where he's ranked now (#59 before this US Open).
