There are some reports that the shooter made a post on 4chan warning of the shooting last night. And apparently got some advice in the thread on how to best pull off the shooting. If the second part is true hopefully people can be prosecuted for that nonsense.

I was thinking the same.

If it's real, it's time they started after these idiots and laid charges. Not sure what the charge would be but I'm sure "encouraging murder" falls under something.

What an ugly part of us those types are.

A man walks into a warzone and he sees a child lying dead in the streets, he feels overwhelmed by sadness and grief and drops to his knees while crying and asks "Oh god why do such terrible things happen" He finally gets the strength to move on and in his journey he comes across two small children lying dead. He starts sobbing uncontrollably and wonders why the world is so cruel and visits such horror onto the innocent.

He finally gains the strength to move on and comes across a pile of 5 children lying dead brutally murdered, He shakes his head and clucks his tongue and moves on.

He comes across a mass grave filled with dozens of dead children, he pauses for a second and then shrugs his shoulders and moves on whistling, it's better that it was them then him.

I'll go out on a limb and say the reasons/excuses were: guns aren't the problem; the shooter had a mental issue and is therefore not the gun's fault; if people on campus were carrying guns less people would have died. Oh yeah, and don't you dare talk about amending the 2nd Amendment.

I think that about covers it.

You forgot the "Okay, that's it for this mass shooting. I'll see you in a day or two for the next one. Or maybe later this afternoon."

I would add the" it's too soon to talk about guns, now is the time for mourning.*"

*Mourning to last until next mass shooting.

The problem is that 4chan sees junk like that all the time. I suspect that - assuming they could even identify the posters - that a prosecutor would have to prove the posters believed the threat was credible in the first place. Good luck with that.

As a small point of order, I really object to the way the media has reported these deaths as 'casulaties'. They're murder victims.

The problem with gun control changes in the U.S is that there are all ready so many guns in America, it's hard to do anything about it. There's just millions and millions of guns.

I strongly dislike many journalists. As a former lawyer, they get facts wrong in 95% of cases they report and are generally just nosy leeches.

Yes, I don't like lawyers very much either.

I love how the USA pro gun nuts on the news forums often bring up Switzerland without actually understanding or mentioning the laws/cultural differences between the two countries.

On the flip side, can anyone speak to or know what the gun laws are in Oregon?

Not sure. I do know that my father in law has a safe full of handguns and he lives in that state. It's not open carry, but he carries a piece on him holstered when patrolling his property or cutting his lawn.
