Couple of things to remember.

Just because a trade didn't happen doesn't mean the rumor wasn't true, there was more than enough smoke from multiple people including even Pierre Lebrun that said the teams were deep in trade discussion again. Nobody was making things up even though some posters seem to want nothing more than for that to be true.

And just because it's not done yet, doesn't mean it won't be completed.

As somebody else already posted Lindholm was informed on the Sunday that he was likely traded to Vancouver and that didn't happen until late on Wednesday...and that should have been a bit easier to coordinate as there were no games to consider.

Devils play a huge game tomorrow vs the Flyers, the team they are trying to chase in the Metro Division standings.

If this is a big trade I doubt they want to be playing that game short handed and without Markstrom and doubt you want to trade for Markstrom and throw him right into an outdoor game he hasn't prepped for...but after their game tomorrow they have Sunday and Monday off.

Will be very intriguing to see if Markstrom is in the starters net tomorrow.

Even if they are not front runners for a trade, I could see both those teams being front runners to sign Hanifin in the offseason if the trade is not with an extension.

He did not think the Bruins needed another left shot defenseman making $7.5MM after getting Lindholm last year.

As it stands, I don’t think either team has the assets to out bid other interested teams. To your point, their best chance is in free agency.

I think this is the main reason the Hanifin is not traded yet. The 6 teams are not giving a big return because Hanifin doesn't want sign with those teams. But his preferred teams like Boston doesn't offer much as the teams know they have a more chance to sign when he become free agent.
