It’s pretty ridiculous when we already have a reasonable land use impact and and reclamation system for oil and gas. Should have just applied the same systems.

It wasnt restrictive enough, there were renewable projects actually being built before

Maybe not stupid but the double standard compared to the oil and gas industry (the one I’m in) is pretty appalling and pretty transparent in its aims.

The difference here is that it appears that renewables must post a bond for full reclamation costs whereas oil and gas can use assets to offsets future reclamation costs and not have to strand capital.
We will have to see final details but it sounds more restrictive than O+G

Well of course it is. The UCP is being used by O+G people to make Alberta taxpayers their personal ATM. They get the extreme right-wing wackos all worked up and let the UCP pass awful bills that hurt citizens who are different than them. And Danielle Smith gets her ultimate goal - power.
None of these people care about making Alberta run well for the citizens of Alberta. It's hard to believe so many Albertans actually vote for them, when they don't give a s^%$ about us.

There is also far less chance of disastrous contamination and death(sour gas) from solar and wind than O&G. It's pretty obvious that their isn't much scientific or logical reason to treat one industry this way while another gets the easy road. Pretty standard UCP stuff though.

What a depressing last ~50 posts. This thread is always depressing, but there are normally 1-2 abhorrent policies discussed at any given time instead of a dozen.
#### the UCP.

Dude...come on. I'm really sad to hear you say that.
I booked Danielle Smith as a clown for your birthday party.

That video...
I like the deer with one antler in the middle of its forehead. Also, the people on the pathway at the end who are somehow simultaneously walking forward and backward.
Also, Grande Prairie?

So, the premise is that they'll power it with electricity produced by natural gas primarily? How environmentally responsible. And they're going to get tech people to move up to northern Alberta to live and work? Can't see it happening.

What about that video gives anyone the impression that there's anything genuine about this proposal or its prospect of going forward? Sounds like O'Leary has found a new grifting partner, it just happens to be our ####ing government.
As for the video:

The weird thing is it's this fancy human occupied centre, but the reality is it could be a warehouse. The only people who need to be there after it is built are hardware maintence. it doesn't make much sense.
The other thing is that this is all so new (massive processing demand for "AI") that the techniques that bred it could easily be supplanted by others that are so efficient you don't need all this power and processing. Who's to say "this is what the next 20 years of AI demand looks like" and actually be correct?
And who's financing this? Mr Wonderful? Anyone else? I predict we give up a lot of money and tax breaks before this kinda fizzles away.
