Shapo had a break point to try to get back on serve, but Andy shut the door.

... I should have trusted my better judgment. Didn't win a game after I tuned in. Saved a couple of match points and then dumped an easy overhead into the net tape.

Pretty standard Shapo really.

That's a tough way to lose a match on such an easy volley. Sigh. Andy moves on in Madrid.

The willingness to stay in the fight and dig deeper when required just doesn't seem to be there and I don't mean just with Shapo, but with a bunch of the NextGen guys. I know Andy is nearing the end of the road, but you can easily see how much it means to him.

Hearing that Alcaraz does not like to be called 'Carlos' and prefers either Carlitos or Charlie. Charlie it is then lol

My goodness, that was one way traffic for Rafa in the opening set. Kecmanovic has played great in 2022, but he drops the opening set 6-1 to Nadal.

Kecmanovic didn't challenge on match point and the Nadal serve was out. Oh well, Rafa moves on 6-1 7-6

Dimitrov takes out Diego 6-0 6-3 on clay. That's a pretty unbelievable scoreline.

/First set was done and dusted in 27 minutes.

Musetti ousts Korda in straight sets meaning that Felix and Garin will be up shortly. The guy from Chile loves the dirt, if Felix prevails, it's a quality win.

Felix made that more complicated than it needed to be as he was serving for the opening set at 5-1 and got broken, but he played some clutch tennis in his next service game to take the first set 6-3.

Edit: Garin gifts a double-fault to hand a break to Felix to start set 2.

Felix now up a double-break in set 2 as Garin is looking less and less engaged.

Every once in a while someone mentions this tournament, and my response is always, "oh yeah! I knew that but somehow had just forgotten it until you mentioned it. Totally crazy".

It's like my brain refuses to accept this information as reality, and will not store it.

Well, I for one certainly wasn't expecting a 6-3 6-0 win for Felix today. FAA gets Sinner next.
