**Bad reading reading skills, actually. "younger than 26" would exclude a 26 year old, correct?
No, the rule is 26 or younger on September 15. So, by age, Cervenka is eligible.
The rule also says: "To be eligible for the award, a player cannot have played any more than 25 games previously in any single season, nor have played in more than six games in two separate preceding seasons in any major professional league."
This rule prevented Gretzky from winning the Calder.
I don't know if they count the KHL as a major pro league. Ovechkin and Malkin both played multiple years in the pre-KHL Russian league and both won the Calder.

How could you think it's a realistic possibility? No one over 25 has won the Calder since Makarov and that was special circumstances. That's over 20 years ago.
I'm not sure the last time a 25+ year old player was nominated. I can't think i
Of any. NHL scouts have been all over this guy for years. If any of them had seen Calder potential don't you think he'd have been in NA by now?
Bartschi has a much better shot IMO. Thinking Cerevnka could step in as an impact player is big time wishful thinking.

H...NHL scouts have been all over this guy for years. If any of them had seen Calder potential don't you think he'd have been in NA by now?
You make it sound as though he has been pining to make the move over to NA for years, and was only this summer given the opportunity by the Flames this summer. This is simply not correct. Based on everything that I have read in following the Flames acquisition of Cervenka, the decision to delay his transition to the NHL was his. There was substantial interest heading into the 2010 season, and then following the Olympics and his impressive performance there, but he chose to remain in the KHL. He has since stated that his reason for doing so was to ensure that he had significant savings before making the move. So, even if there were dozens of teams that saw "Calder potential" in the past—and we have no idea if there were or were not, there was no guarantee that this would have been enough to alter Cervenka's decision.

As said already there was a variety of reasons why Cervenka didn't jump into the NHL earlier but the main one being he wanted to be financially stable first. I'm not saying he will win the Calder or even come close but the way you talk you make it sound like its a certainty he won't and a certainty he won't have any impact, which IMO is foolish. What is the difference between Schultz and Cervenka? Both are older than the standard rookie and both have games that are probably a little more polished than an 18 year old, but let me guess you believe Shultz will step in and be an impact player right? Last I checked Schultz wasn't a some high top 10/15 draft pick. He is just as big of a wild card as Cervenka is.

My money is on Tarasenko.

Nice to remember what it feels like to have a young superstar in the making.
Still a lot of work to do with our prospect pool, but we're def heading in the right direction. Drafting has been much better since Feaster has took over.
