And that final heavy machine gun that you got on the dead reaper was like throwing a running lawnmover into a pack of curious kids.
ME1 was a little tougher in terms of leveling up your weapons.
But there was no effect like having an over powered full auto slowly walking forward with your rigle sighted in and chewing some poor ####### into pieces.
I will admit though that the duck and vault feature was way better in the second game.

my biggest complaint in ME1 was that when leveled up and the correct skills chosen, the pistol was by far the most powerful weapon in the game

I felt that the biotics were more powerful in ME1 and there was more variety. I don't play a biotic Shepard so I'm not entirely certain though. But it sure seemed that way.

Yeah I never played biotic sheppard, because Biotics are freaks and freaks shouldn't rise above the level of useful yet dsposable crew member.
Kinda like aliens.
There was nothing better then one of your biotic crew members hurling some scum through the air and the old captain getting the kill credit with a leisurly sniper shot. Sort of lke skeet shooting with live targets.

Biotics seemed wrong for my Shepard too. Doesn't make sense for the character. In ME2 it's often squad mate lifting the enemy up followed by a concussive shot by a soldier, sends them off the ledges.
ME2 was more repetitive in that regard. If I remember right, the singularity for example was a real mofo in ME1.

I loved my adept in ME1. I was practically a god on the battlefield. The fight on the side of Citadel Tower was hilarious as most powers would result in the enemies being thrown off into space. I found the adept to be much less of a rewarding class choice in ME2. Not being able to use your powers, such as lift, on shielded or armored enemies was incredibly weak. I get that they have to keep classes from becoming over powered but somehow between the 2 games my Shepard went from being able to lift colossi with his biotics to barely being able to pick up one of those little security mechs. Give me my power back!

Frictionless Materials X + Kinetic Exoskeleton X + Marksman FTW
And yeah, with the sniper rifles you could hit guys from outside their detection range even if they're looking right at you. Although sometimes it was easier to hit 'em with the assault rifle.

In ME1, in a small room, you could have the furniture swirling in the air around a singularity as well as all the enemies like ragdolls. ME2 never had those moments.

I would play both ME1 and 2 before even thinking of 3. ME1 for the story and RPG elements; ME2 for the better combat (Vangaurd is so much more fun in 2...) and characters. The side missions are more fleshed out in ME2 it's true, but there's still a few interesting ones in ME1 (Hades' Dogs, whatever Paragon/Renegade-specific sidequest you unlocked, or both)... even if the area was laid out like one of two possible dungeons. Oh well. And they're all pretty short, except Bring Down The Sky.

Definitely not. I shotgunned those suckers to death. I liked the Mako otherwise. You could scale mountains in that thing! ....Mako + planet missions did get boring after a while.
Still, Hammerhead was just not the same.
I for one love ME2 biotics. Or rather, I just love that Vanguard was no longer just a soldier with biotics. Charge and Shockwave >> whatever the ME1 Vanguard had, seriously. And ME3 made the class even more fun, but I'm also a fan of close-range combat anyway. (hello, heavy melee and Nova)
And the ME1 Spectre weapons served me well. With whatever the hell mods I used the shotgun tore through Geth like they were butter.

I've never played any of these, so I bought Mass Effect last night on Steam for $20.
The opening dialogue seemed pretty interesting, but I only got to play it for about 10 minutes.

First one's on sale on Origin if someone's thinking about buying it on pc. I think you'll need to log on to Origin to play ME3 anyway.

I got into the habbit of exiting the vehicle as soon as I'd encounter enemies because if the Mako gets destroyed you have to restart. You also get more experience by killing things outside of the Mako.

Well damn, I should probably consider that from now on. I barely use the sniper rifle, since the Assault Rifle is so powerful. Now that I recently got the Spectre weapons opening up, most Geth die in only a few bullets from my assault rifle (I'm a Soldier).
With my awesome firepower plus Liara and Tali taking care of Biotics/Tech stuff, I'm a killing machine on foot. My one experience with a colossus on foot I believe was on the mission to get Liara, and I got wasted, but that was early on. I really should give it another shot on foot next Mako run I do.

Or you could just run'n'gun with the cannon (not the machine gun) on the Mako, and be laughing at the Colossus, too.

You must be great at aiming (right trigger) and shooting (right button) at the same time, because usually I will off course if I keep moving. Especially on areas where you have to go down to the enemies, which the Mako is terrible at (the cannon has a terrible range aiming down, usually ends up hitting really high). Trust me, I tried that, and unless you have a big wide open area (like where Thresher Maws hide), that isn't going to work well.

I use a thumb trackball mouse, so my perspective may be a bit skewed. I drive with the WASD buttons. Aiming and shooting is pretty easy, as I'm not trying to use my mouse to drive, just shoot. If I'm a long ways off, I usually just zigzag in on them. If I'm in the mood for some amusing fun, I just drive a decently tight circle around them while shooting it. It can't keep up with you, so can't ever really hit you.

I had no great trouble either. Get into a good position at some distance at a right angle and move back and forth just a little bit to evade enemy fire while you keep your big gun on the bad machine. You have all the time in the world to dodge the shots.
And you can always jump. You can even do this while zooming in when you get used to it.
