Cabrera, 27, was spotted by a deputy in a car with its engine smoking alongside a road in Fort Pierce. Inside the vehicle, Cabrera smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and took a swig from a bottle of scotch in front of a deputy, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office said. He refused to cooperate and more deputies were called to the scene.
He was wandering into the road with his hands up before he was handcuffed, the report said. According to the report, Cabrera kept saying, "Do you know who I am? You don't know anything about my problems," and cursed at deputies who tried to get him into a patrol car.

Has the "Do you know who I am?" defense ever worked?

Isn't Teixiera routinely cited - http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playof...rry&id=4583999 - as one of the better defensive 1B? You hear that a lot, although I'm not sure the numbers support it or not. At the very least its a perception I think a lot have. I can't see them moving him off of first. If they signed Pujols - I could see that happening - I think they would trade Teixiera, likely for some stud pitching?

As someone who watches 150 Yankee games a year - Teixiera is a fantastic first base glove. Also he took less money to sign with the Yanks and has a no trade clause - he is most likelygoing nowhere. Pujols will be a Card (75%), Cub (15%) or Ranger (10%) IMO.

I agree, Tex isn't going anywhere.

Had an idea!

Nor should he go anywhere. One of the best 1B in the league.

He probably won't go anywhere but if you have a chance to get Pujols it seems pretty stupid to not do it because you already have Teixiera there. He is good but he is no Pujols and both guys could fit on the same American League team.

but you'd agree that it'd be a huge waste for one of them to DH?

No I don't think so.
I don't see how adding Pujols to your team would be a waste. Especially when you are the Yankees and don't have to worry about salary.
I think ideally you would prefer to spread the talent around but having Teixiera should not prevent you from getting Pujols.

Wow, I just noticed that Adam Wainwright is slated for Tommy John surgery and will miss the Card's 2011 season. Yikes.

And Carpenter, IIRC, saying something alongs the lines of he wouldn't nix a trade neither. Times are starting to look bleak in St. Lou. And I thought a middle infield of Theriot and Schumaker was bad enough.

The Giants are tearing it up in pre-season. Are the Champs under-estimated?

If Bochy happens to keep Brandon Belt around, that opens up a whole plethora of options as well. Never really liked this team last year, outside of their dominant pitching staff, but if Belt sticks and Huff moves to the outfield - makes them a deeper lineup for sure. Oh, and Belt is going to be some kinda good too. 6'5" 210 at 22. Savage.

Sportsnet had an hour long preview on the Giants last night. Looks like the offence will be better this year, with full years from Posey and Ross. They were saying Posey is a once in a generation catcher, and he will hit for more power this year. Sandoval has lost a ton of weight in the off-season, and has been playing great in spring training. The pitching is still great. They should be contenders now, and into the future.
Cactus League Highlights:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...est/index.html
Best New Superstar: Buster Posey, Giants, C
OK, this isn't exactly going out on a limb. The guy was fabulous as a first-year player, winning NL Rookie of the Year honors and helping lead the Giants to the championship. And by all accounts, he can only get better. "He hasn't even learned to pull yet. Once he does, watch out,'' one scout said. "The guy's going to be a monster.'' One thing, the guy works constantly. He isn't much for interviews, limiting them to fit in more time for work. "You have the opportunity to play in the big leagues, it's not something I'm going to take for granted,'' Posey said. As for whether he can duplicate last year's heroics, he said, "I don't think I'd go out with the mindset, 'Can I repeat it?' I need to do better and not be complacent with what I did last year.''
Most Improved Body: Pablo Sandoval, Giants, 3B
He said he's dropped 38 pounds with better dieting and more working out. Word is, he hired a dietician to replace his mother's home cooking. He uses the former decathlete Dan O'Brien plus one of Barry Bonds' old training bobos (Greg Oliver) for training help. He is down to 242 pounds, according to the media guide, and looks it (he was listed at 262 last year). Out on the back fields he is often seen running wind sprints, having taken to heart the Giants' threats to demote him if he came into camp looking like a blimp again. "It's hard to do,'' he said of the weight loss. But he did it
